Optimizing Product Line Designs: Efficient Methods And Comparisons, Alexandre Belloni, Robert Freund, Matthew Selove, Duncan Simester
Optimizing Product Line Designs: Efficient Methods And Comparisons, Alexandre Belloni, Robert Freund, Matthew Selove, Duncan Simester
Business Faculty Articles and Research
We take advantage of recent advances in optimization methods and computer hardware to identify globally optimal solutions of product line design problems that are too large for complete enumeration. We then use this guarantee of global optimality to benchmark the performance of more practical heuristic methods. We use two sources of data: (1) a conjoint study previously conducted for a real product line design problem, and (2) simulated problems of various sizes. For both data sources, several of the heuristic methods consistently find optimal or near-optimal solutions, including simulated annealing, divide-and-conquer, product-swapping, and genetic algorithms.
Identification Of Linkage Between Strategic Group And Performance Of Indian Commercial Banks: A Combined Approach Using Dea And Co-Plot, Prithwiraj Nath, Avinandan Mukherjee, Manabendra Nath
Identification Of Linkage Between Strategic Group And Performance Of Indian Commercial Banks: A Combined Approach Using Dea And Co-Plot, Prithwiraj Nath, Avinandan Mukherjee, Manabendra Nath
Marketing Faculty Research
This paper explores the linkage between strategic grouping and performance of the Indian banking sector. Strategic grouping and performance were identified using published financial information for all public sector banks. Grouping of Indian public sector banks following comparable financial strategy – with similar asset quality, operational efficiency and profitability was operationalized using the graphical display method of Co-plot.
From their position in the two dimensional conceptual map, banks with identical financial performance formed strategic groups with significant positive linkage between better groups and their superior financial performance, which showed their inherent homogeneity in business policy decisions. Relative performance of the …
Fisheries Management Report No. 4 - Planning For The Further Development Of The Aquaculture And Marine Farming Industry At Jurien Bay, Dave Everall
Fisheries Published Reports
There is a well documented global requirement for some twenty million tonnes of edible sea foods from aquaculture in the next fifteen years. Most of the projected increase in production will need to be from mariculture because of limiting factors on land based aquaculture. At present, approximately 85%of all aquaculture occurs in the Asian region.
Globally, temperate water species have market advantages because of their ability to supply a growing market preference for a firm white fleshed fin fish. Although significant temperate water aquaculture occurs in various countries north of the equator, there are growing environmental concerns surrounding production of …

An Evaluation Of Mango (Mangifera Indica L.) Cultivars And Their Commercial Suitability For The Kimberley, P. R. Johnson, D. M. Robinson
An Evaluation Of Mango (Mangifera Indica L.) Cultivars And Their Commercial Suitability For The Kimberley, P. R. Johnson, D. M. Robinson
Horticulture published reports
An evaluation of 74 mango cultivars was conducted from 1983 to 1995 in the Ord River Irrigation Area (ORIA) on Cockatoo sand. The aim to determine their suitability for commercial production and establish the basis for a mango industry in the Northern tropics of Western Australia. Measurements were made on yield, harvest times, flowering times, brix, fruit quality, growth rates and market acceptability. Results have indicated that cultivars, other than Kensington Pride, most commercially suitable in the ORIA are Banana for early cropping in mid September, Irwin for high regular yields and good market acceptability, Haden for excellent market acceptability, …

Cost Competitiveness Of Airlines: An International Comparison, Tae Oum, Chunyan Yu
Cost Competitiveness Of Airlines: An International Comparison, Tae Oum, Chunyan Yu
Publications
Significant structural, institutional and regulatory changes have occurred in the airline industry since the mid-1980s. These changes have intensified competition in both domestic and international air transport market. As the market becomes more competitive, the ultimate ability of a carrier to survive and prosper depends greatly on its cost competitiveness. This paper measures and compares the unit cost competitiveness of the world's major airlines, using the yearly panel data of 23 major airlines over the 1986-93 period. We focus our analysis on identifying the potential factors which influence the observed unit cost differentials among airlines, including input prices, productivity, network …
