Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being utilized in pharmaceutical research and development to speed up drug discovery, enhance clinical trial design, and support regulatory decision-making. However, the increasingly rapid adoption of AI in the pharma industry has outpaced the development of consistent ethical governance, raising concerns related to data privacy, transparency, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder trust. This study explored the methods by which project managers could develop and utilize ethical decision-making frameworks to facilitate responsible AI implementation in pharmaceutical research and development. Guided by the Responsible Innovation framework, this research employed a mixed-methods design combining semi-structured interviews and quantitative surveys with …

Rethinking Schedule Quality Risk Assessment, Michael E. Oliver, Patrick T. Rodjom Nov 2025

Rethinking Schedule Quality Risk Assessment, Michael E. Oliver, Patrick T. Rodjom

Beyond the Project Horizon: Journal of the Center for Project Management Innovation

Critical Path Method schedule reliability is dependent on exhibition of specific qualities. Failure to exhibit these qualities (i.e., schedule defects) increases project risk exposure. Although current schedule quality assessment methods provide diagnostic remediation insights, they do not provide a meaningful singular assessment value that characterizes the nature and magnitude of schedule quality risk nor do they enable parity when comparing schedule quality across multiple schedules of disparate size (e.g., number of tasks) or complexity (e.g., number of concurrent paths, degree of merge bias). This study employed a design science research approach to address current schedule quality assessment practice dilemmas through …

Research On Credit Card Transaction Risk Prediction Model Based On Multi-Source Data Fusion And Its Application, Ziang Qi Jun 2025

Research On Credit Card Transaction Risk Prediction Model Based On Multi-Source Data Fusion And Its Application, Ziang Qi

Harrisburg University Other Works

In this paper, the credit card risk control and early warning model is constructed to predict and control the credit card risk by fusing multi-source data through data mining technology. After analyzing the theoretical application of XGBoost algorithm on credit card transaction risk, its model parameters are optimized by particle swarm algorithm to construct PSO-XGBoost credit card transaction risk prediction model. The credit card transaction risk prediction performance of the PSO-XGBoost model is verified and applied to the abnormal transaction risk assessment of Bank A. The AUC value, accuracy, F1 value, precision rate, and recall rate of the PSO-XGBoost model …

Importance Of Mentoring Programs For Successful Remote Work Project Completion, Karlo Lozic Aug 2024

Importance Of Mentoring Programs For Successful Remote Work Project Completion, Karlo Lozic

Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses

Covid-19 has upended the work environment tremendously. Around 50% of employees now work remotely at least some days of the week. And while researchers have studied extensively the impact of remote work on productivity and project performance, the importance of mentoring programs for successful remote work project execution has been neglected. One of the main bottlenecks remote projects face is the need for knowledge sharing which would otherwise occur naturally in the office. A potential solution to solve the bottleneck and encourage the process of knowledge sharing is by establishing formal mentoring programs which can guide remote workers and not …

Human Centered Projects And Survivorship Bias The Perceived Success Of Project Outcomes?, Tom Wise Mar 2023

Human Centered Projects And Survivorship Bias The Perceived Success Of Project Outcomes?, Tom Wise

Beyond the Project Horizon: Journal of the Center for Project Management Innovation

Due to the bias that process design demands, we forget the example given by failed projects. The tendency to focus on success was first noted during WWII and named Survivorship Bias. This means that as project professionals, we tend to look at projects that completed successfully to identify desirable patterns for repeatability in process and practice. This leads project professionals to seek out patterns based on successful past practice modeled by successful leaders. Project Managers are trained and heavily focused on Scope, Schedule, and Cost. Perhaps the common constraints and practices of project management may be positively impacted by human …

Managing The Edge Of Chaos, John Clark Oct 2022

Managing The Edge Of Chaos, John Clark

Beyond the Project Horizon: Journal of the Center for Project Management Innovation

The purpose of this research sought to investigate the relationship between project management competencies and project complexity upon project success. A literature review indicates that project complexity is a primary source of project failure. A gap exists concerning how project management competencies and project complexity predict project success. The first research question was, “To what extent do project management competencies predict project success?” The second research question was, “To what extent does project complexity predict project success?” A quantitative method nonexperimental research design, using a correlational approach, was deployed. The theory of complexity explains that the relationship between project management …
