Early Stem Impressions, Student Engagement, And Readiness For Digitalization, Myron Sheu
Early Stem Impressions, Student Engagement, And Readiness For Digitalization, Myron Sheu
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
This study examines how early impressions of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) shape business students’ learning behaviors and, ultimately, their readiness for organizational digitalization. Focusing on gender differences, subgroup identities, and perceived obstacles, the analysis uses survey data processed through correlation matrices, regression models, and subgroup heatmaps to trace the relationship between initial attitudes toward STEM and subsequent engagement patterns. The findings reveal consistent links between positive early impressions and active participation in structured STEM activities, along with gender-based distinctions in action preferences. Subgroup analyses further uncover nuanced patterns where stereotypes or perceived barriers correspond with reduced engagement. Collectively, …
Value Of Transportation Information Systems: Implications Of Digital Platforms, Third-Party Forecasting, And Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, Ali Shirzadibabakan
Value Of Transportation Information Systems: Implications Of Digital Platforms, Third-Party Forecasting, And Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, Ali Shirzadibabakan
All Dissertations
This three-essay dissertation focuses on understanding the impacts of IT, or IT enabled business models, on transportation and supply chains. Specifically, it empirically examines the market and societal implications of digital freight platforms, third-party forecasting, and cyber-physical systems in the transportation and supply chain sectors. Leveraging the entry of the Amazon Freight platform into the trucking freight industry as an exogenous shock, the first essay finds that adding a digital platform-enabled spot marketplace addresses the prevalent problem of the performance (rejection) of nonbinding contracts in the trucking industry. Specifically, the platform’s effect manifests through two primary mechanisms: increasing suppliers’ transportation …

Thus, the E-Healthcare industries are aiming towards a Defense in Depth Strategy approach.
The project here describes how a Defense in Depth Strategy for E-Healthcare system can provide an environment for better security of the data and peer-to-peer interaction with stakeholders. The legacy systems have at some point failed …
Creating Rich And Representative Personas By Discovering Affordances, Mostafa Mesgari, Chitu Okoli, Ana Ortiz De Guinea
Creating Rich And Representative Personas By Discovering Affordances, Mostafa Mesgari, Chitu Okoli, Ana Ortiz De Guinea
Information Systems and Business Analytics Faculty Works
During the last decade, information system designers have used the persona technique to put user needs and preferences at the center of all development decisions. Persona development teams draw on qualitative data, quantitative data or a combination of both to develop personas that are representative of the target users. Despite the benefits of both approaches, qualitative methods are limited by the cognitive capabilities of the experts, whereas quantitative methods lack contextual richness. To gain the advantages of both approaches, this article suggests a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach to create user personas based on the patterns of the affordances they actualize rather …

The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has partnered with Deposit-Taking Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) in Kenya to allow their members access to Co-operative Bank automated teller machines (ATMs) via Saccolink debit cards. However, the adoption and utilization of debit cards has opened financial institutions to fraud associated with the use of debit cards for transactions on automated teller machines and point-of-sale terminals. Given this limitation, this study sought to investigate the effect of Saccolink debit card services on the financial performance of Deposit-Taking SACCOs in Kenya. Through a combination of agency, information systems success models, and task-technology fit theories …
Toward An Understanding Of How Post-Deployment User-Developer Interactions Influence System Utilization, Colleen Carraher Wolverton Phd
Toward An Understanding Of How Post-Deployment User-Developer Interactions Influence System Utilization, Colleen Carraher Wolverton Phd
Department of Management
Although initial adoption of an information system has been shown to influence system success, further value can be obtained when end-users move beyond adoption, utilizing more features of the system and integrating it into their work routines. Organizations can increase the post-deployment utilization of their systems by emphasizing continued interaction between developers and end-users. In this study, we develop a research model investigating the influence of shared understanding, faithfulness of appropriation, and consensus on spirit on post-deployment system utilization. Using a sample from a healthcare organization, we show that increased end-user post-deployment interaction with developers supports a shared understanding between …

Blockchain: Is It The Future Of Business?, Stuart Welsch
Blockchain: Is It The Future Of Business?, Stuart Welsch
Information Systems Undergraduate Honors Theses
Blockchain is one of these new and disruptive technologies being developed; it is predicted to change the landscape of business in an extremely similar fashion as the Internet did. In lay terms, blockchain is a new technology designed to secure privacy (Collins, 2016), cut out unnecessary middleman costs (Eha, 2017), dramatically lower the cost of transactions (Iansiti & Lakhani, 2009), lower transaction time (Underwood, 2016), and assist in making assets become more liquid and appealing (like cash) because they are more easily transferable (Paech, 2016). Blockchain functions like a ledger; it is able to keep track of an asset’s ownership …

Key Performance Indicators In An Agile Supply Chain, Jacob Langston
Key Performance Indicators In An Agile Supply Chain, Jacob Langston
Master of Information Systems Capstone Executive Summary
Agile supply chains offer the flexibility required to support customers who require a “quick response” to demand requirements. Coupled with lean process improvements and integrated solutions, cost-effective supply chains can be established that provide the infrastructure needed to support the agility needed to meet customer demands; ultimately increasing market share and continued growth. While Emerson’s mission to remain an industry leader in the HVAC&R Industry aligns with these aspects of supply chain management, current system infrastructure does not support such flexibility. Multiple execution tools, processes and one-off solutions make it difficult to standardize reporting methodologies for performance metrics. This leads …

Designing A Comprehensive Framework For E-Government Implementation Success With A Special View Of The Case Of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Alsaigh
Theses and Dissertations
As a result of the increasing development in the field of Information Systems (IS) in the last decades, new concepts have appeared to serve specific requirements and needs (Smith 2010; Almarabeh and AbuAli 2010). E-government is one of these concepts, which appeared in 1993 (Silva 2006) to become one of the main tools for governments around the world to enhance the services provided by governments and their agencies (Atallah 2001). Investigating the literature shows that there are common issues in all e-government implementation projects which can be summarized as follows: 1) e-government implementation projects in their nature are vast, and …
The Knowledge Cube: Scaffolding For A Body Of Knowledge About Information Systems, Steven Alter
The Knowledge Cube: Scaffolding For A Body Of Knowledge About Information Systems, Steven Alter
Business Analytics and Information Systems
This paper answers calls for a body of knowledge (BoK) for the IS field. Its new approach for thinking about a BoK provides a path for addressing a longstanding problem in the IS discipline. The paper proposes organizing knowledge as a three dimensional "knowledge cube" that goes beyond compilations of categories of knowledge, sets of generalizations, and sets of documents. The structure of the knowledge cube is based on recognition that "work system in general" is a general case whose subordinate cases include information system in general and project in general. In turn, the special cases have their own special …
A Work System Front End For Object-Oriented Analysis And Des, Steven Alter
A Work System Front End For Object-Oriented Analysis And Des, Steven Alter
Business Analytics and Information Systems
This paper proposes that basic ideas from the work system theory (WST) and the work system method (WSM) might become a front end to object-oriented analysis and design (OOAD). After describing the background motivation and summarizing work system concepts, it uses a hiring system example to show how two tools from WSM can be used as a front end for OOAD, in effect, a step before creating use case diagrams. Potential benefits of this approach stem from a business-oriented question, "how can we improve this work system's performance," rather than an IT-oriented question, "how can we create an IT artifact …

Information requirements determination (IRD) is concerned with developing accurate requirements for a proposed system, primarily by eliciting information from users and other organizational stakeholders. In this paper we build and test theory concerning a significant threat to the accuracy of information requirements, termed the misinformation effect. Misinformation is distorted, false, or other erroneous or misleading information that does not reflect the true state of the world or state of mind of the person communicating the information. The misinformation effect refers to the tendency of people to recall misleading or false information introduced to them following an event instead of original …

BLAKE, Beginners Language for Acquiring Key programming Essentials, is designed specifically for use in a Programming I class. BLAKE aids in enforcing fundamental object-oriented practices while simultaneously facilitating the transition to subsequent programming languages. BLAKE’s major features include; consistent …
The Shaping Of Managers’ Security Objectives Through Information Security Awareness Training, Mark Harris
The Shaping Of Managers’ Security Objectives Through Information Security Awareness Training, Mark Harris
Theses and Dissertations
Information security research states that corporate security policy and information security training should be socio-technical in nature and that corporations should consider training as a primary method of protecting their information systems. However, information security policies and training are predominately technical in nature. In addition, managers creating security policies rely heavily on security guidelines, which are also technically oriented. This study created a series of information security training videos that were viewed by four groups of managers. One video discussed the socio-technical aspects of security, another discussed only the social aspects of security, the third detailed only the technical aspects …

Buyer Perceptions Of Supply Disruption Risk: A Behavioral View And Empirical Assessment, Scott C. Ellis, Raymond M. Henry, Jeff Shockley
Business Faculty Publications
As supply chains become more complex, firms face increasing risks of supply disruptions. The process through which buyers make decisions in the face of these risks, however, has not been explored. Despite research highlighting the importance of behavioral approaches to risk, there is limited research that applies these views of risk in the supply chain literature. This paper addresses this gap by drawing on behavioral risk theory to investigate the causal relationships amongst situation, representations of risk, and decision-making within the purchasing domain. We operationalize and explore the relationship between three representations of supply disruption risk: magnitude of supply disruption, …

Database security is a growing concern evidenced by an increase in the number of reported incidents of loss of or unauthorized exposure to sensitive data. As the amount of data collected, retained and shared electronically expands, so does the need to understand database security. The Defense Information Systems Agency of the US Department of Defense (2004), in its Database Security Technical Implementation Guide, states that database security should provide controlled, protected access to the contents of a database as well as preserve the integrity, consistency, and overall quality of the data. Students in the computing disciplines must develop an …
A Model Of Organizational Competencies For Business Intelligence Success, Lewis Chasalow
A Model Of Organizational Competencies For Business Intelligence Success, Lewis Chasalow
Theses and Dissertations
Business intelligence (BI) systems comprise one of the largest and fastest growing areas of IT expenditure in companies today. Companies’ experiences with deriving benefits from these systems are still mixed. One of the differences between BI and other types of information systems is that how BI systems are used, not just whether they are used, can have a major impact on the benefits derived. Therefore the characteristics of BI users and the organizations within which they work can have a disproportionate impact on the benefits derived from investments in BI. Organizational competence is one way to evaluate the characteristics of …
