This dissertation takes a process-centric and stakeholder-first perspective for handling analytical uncertainty: the form of uncertainty that confronts data analysts' insight-generation processes in high-consequence decision-making scenarios. The cost of an incorrect decision when data is used for movie recommendations as opposed to when personal data is used to drive insights or when data-driven modeling is used to drive real-time decisions for maintaining the health of a grid are vastly different in terms of consequences. Efficient Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) is essential for healthcare organizations to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement for medical claims. While previous research explores the relationship between ESG ratings, firm size, and financial outcomes, there is a lack of comprehensive analysis comparing multiple ESG ratings within the mining industry. This gap is crucial given the increasing focus on ESG in mining operations and its potential impact on company performance. Based on proprietary financial and ESG ratings data from 200 mining companies, this study investigates the relationship between two different ESG ratings and firm characteristics. We compare ESG-rated firms with unrated firms in terms of firm size, and financial performance indicators, and explore country-level patterns in ESG ratings. Findings reveal that …

This thesis examines the effects of extreme market shocks on supply chain dynamics within the automotive industry. Through an analysis of demand data from an automotive manufacturer to its component suppliers (January 2018 to May 2024), the study investigates the relationship between market shocks and supply chain responses, providing insights into how auto components inventory management handles downstream responses to market shocks. Recently, automotive manufacturers have started offering multi-car subscription programs that give customers access to a menu of car models with possibility of switching between the models. The maintenance and depreciation costs during the program are borne by the manufacturers before the cars are sold in the pre-owned market. This paper studies how offering such a subscription program shapes the firm’s flexible versus dedicated technology choice and capacity investment decisions. This study provides a comprehensive evaluation of data security within the Apple ecosystem, focusing on the company’s privacy policies, user perceptions, and the effectiveness of its App Store review processes. Employing an interdisciplinary methodology, the research examines Apple’s commitment to data protection, emphasizing transparency and user trust. A survey of user experiences revealed varying levels of engagement and understanding of Apple’s privacy practices, with only 32.8% of respondents having read the Privacy Policy and mixed opinions on its clarity. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the big data–performance relationship based on the existing empirical evidence. Using a meta-analysis approach, big data adoption (BDA) related 446 effect sizes reported in 133 prior empirical studies were gathered from 118848 informants in more than 30 countries. Results confirm ten significant antecedents and eight outcomes of BDA based on identified literature. We further estimate the heterogeneity based on subgroup analysis by considering two types of moderators as (a)economic regions (developed vs developing), and (b) type of industry. This study applies a posthuman lens to the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Workforce Framework, examining two key Work Roles in cybersecurity education. Employing a novel posthuman coding scheme, the associated Tasks, Knowledge, and Skills (TKS) statements were analyzed. Findings reveal significant posthuman elements within the framework while identifying opportunities for further integration. The analysis demonstrates a strong presence of human-technology entanglement and adaptive learning concepts, yet highlights areas where the framework could emphasize system complexity and interconnectedness. This explanatory study investigates the motivations behind data professionals' willingness or resistance to implementing data policies and procedures, utilizing the Theory of Planned Behavior and Psychological Ownership as frameworks. Through interviews with 21 data professionals, the research explains how factors such as perceived control, ownership, and attitudes towards data processes influence their motivation. This study examines the relationship between corporate cash holdings and firm performance within the IT industry, which is characterized by intense competition and rapid technological advancements. We propose an integrated framework that combines principal component analysis (PCA), machine learning (ML) algorithms, and Shapley additive explanation (SHAP) values to estimate and interpret model outcomes. Based on 21,051 corporate financial statement data items from 2004 and 2023, the empirical evidence supports an inverted U-shaped relationship between cash holdings and profitability, suggesting that holding either too little or too much cash is suboptimal. The wormhole attack is a persistent security threat that threatens the integrity of network communications, potentially leading to data theft or other malicious activities. How come Open Science is a well-shared vision among research communities, while the prerequisite practice of research data management (RDM) is lagging? This research sheds light on RDM adoption in the Dutch context of universities of applied sciences, by studying influencing technological, organizational, and environmental factors using the TOE-framework. A survey was sent out to researchers of universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. This is especially true in online classes where students have less interaction with their classmates and instructors when compared to traditional face-to-face courses. Global supply chains have vulnerabilities, and these escalate in crisis times like pandemics or wars. Digital twinning of supply chains can provide early alerts and timely interventions. We examined three companies in different industries using Digital Twin (DT) technology to improve their supply chain performance. We found that while DT successfully enhanced performance indicators, the dollar and time costs were significant, creating barriers to wider DT adoption. We conclude by outlining the positives and negatives of implementing Digital Twins in global supply chains.

Detecting and mitigating wormhole attacks in wireless networks remains a critical challenge due to their deceptive nature and potential to compromise network integrity. This paper proposes a novel approach to wormhole detection by leveraging propagation delay analysis between network nodes. Unlike traditional methods that rely on signature-based detection or specialized hardware, our method focuses on analyzing propagation delay timings to identify anomalous behavior indicative of wormhole attacks. The proposed methodology involves collecting propagation delay data in both normal network scenarios and scenarios with inserted malicious wormhole nodes. Email spam detection and filtering are crucial security measures in all organizations. It is applied to filter unsolicited messages; most of the time, they comprise a large portion of harmful messages. Machine learning algorithms, specifically classification algorithms, are used to filter and detect if the email is spam or not spam. These algorithms entail training models on labelled data to predict whether an email is spam or not based on its features.
