Data Mining (DM) has gained increasing attention in academia and growing importance in business over past decades. This is a study to examine the current status of DM in both research and practice with a focus on the role of statistics for the advancement of the field. Being multi-disciplinary in nature, DM challenges researchers to work together and be aware of the progress made in other fields in order to contribute towards the development of the field. By employing citation analysis techniques and using publicly available citation data, I empirically examine how DM reference fields, such as statistics, machine learning, …

The need to improve the success rates of software development projects has prompted the software engineering community to come-up with various initiatives. These initiatives include: new software development processes such as Extreme Programming (XP), leveraging the development process by reusing existing knowledge of software artifacts. XP utilizes pairs in the performance of various software development tasks. Moreover, development of software applications is a knowledge intensive process that utilizes both tacit and explicit knowledge. This experimental study utilized software development professionals as subjects and manipulated the mode of participation (individual or pairs) and availability of codified knowledge (design patterns). Results of …

In today's global and highly competitive economy, organizations are constantly monitoring their performance and the performance of their competitors. With technological advancements and increased expectations from consumers, time becomes a critical factor in an organizations' ability to sustain their advantage over competitors. By understanding the multiple components which compose their performance and quickly identifying and addressing inefficiencies within the systems, an organization can maintain and possibly increase their share of the marketplace. This research will assess the feasibility of data envelopement analysis (DEA) as a tool for organizations to measure their performance over time. DEA has been widely used and …
