A Sustainability Index For Airlines: A Kpi-Based Framework For Benchmarking Environmental Performance, Craig Dedrick
A Sustainability Index For Airlines: A Kpi-Based Framework For Benchmarking Environmental Performance, Craig Dedrick
Discovery Day - Daytona Beach
The aviation industry faces increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact, yet standardized methods for evaluating airline sustainability performance remain limited. This study proposes a structured sustainability index designed to benchmark airline environmental strategies using fourteen key performance indicators (KPIs) derived from publicly disclosed corporate sustainability and annual reports. To improve analytical clarity, the KPIs are organized into seven conceptual clusters capturing distinct dimensions of environmental performance: strategic governance and commitment, operational and fleet efficiency, the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) ecosystem, emissions reduction and climate mitigation outcomes, carbon management and neutralization, energy transition and electrification, and environmental pollution and resource …

Ai-Driven Predictive Analysis Of Airline Profitability Under Macroeconomic And Sustainable Aviation Fuels, Shivika Singh
Discovery Day - Daytona Beach
This study presents an AI-enhanced predictive model to assess airline profitability under the combined influence of macroeconomic trends and the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). By including economic indicators such as GDP growth, inflation rates, and fuel price volatility with airline operational data, including ticket prices and fuel costs, the model simulates profitability across multiple carriers. Scenario-based analyses, encompassing optimistic, moderate, and pessimistic projections, illustrate different financial sensitivities between low-cost and legacy airlines.

Beyond Bureaucracy: Entrepreneurial Mindset And Ai Readiness As Drivers Of Business Model Innovation In Blu Business Units — A Conceptual Framework, Ahmad Nurholis, Muhammad Rifky Adzakie
International Conference on Business and Management Research (ICBMR)
This paper advances a conceptual framework that examines how entrepreneurial mindset (EM) and AI readiness interact to shape business model innovation (BMI) and financial performance (FP) within Indonesia’s profit-oriented Public Service Agency (BLU) business units. As hybrid organizations, BLU business units must simultaneously fulfill their public service mandate while pursuing revenue generation, creating a unique context that demands stronger theoretical grounding. The framework draws on New Public Management (NPM) principles and the Dynamic Capabilities (DC) perspective to argue that an entrepreneurial mindset stimulates BMI both directly and indirectly through enhanced AI readiness. In turn, BMI is positioned as a driver …

Sharia Compliance And Stock Price Crash Risk: Evidence From Indonesia, Asty Khairi Inayah Syahwani, Arief Wibisono Lubis, Dwi Nastiti Danarsari
International Conference on Business and Management Research (ICBMR)
This study examines the impact of sharia compliance on stock price crash risk, controlling for company fundamental characteristics, among firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2021 to 2024. Panel data was analyzed using a dynamic panel model (System GMM) and crash risk is measured using NCSKEW and DUVOL. The results show that Sharia compliance significantly reduces stock price crash risk when measured using NCSKEW, while its effect on DUVOL is insignificant. This finding is consistent with the robustness check using the two-step System GMM, suggesting that Sharia principles can be a mitigating mechanism for extreme crash risk. These …

This research investigated the effectiveness of gold, WTI, 5-year government bonds and Bitcoin as a safe haven asset. The analysis included 10 stock indices of countries with the highest crypto adoption rate. We applied quantile regression method processed to evaluate the relationship across different points of the return distribution. The findings revealed that 5-year government bonds show more negative correlation with the stock indices which imply that government bonds have better potential as safe haven assets compared to gold, WTI, and Bitcoin during the 2020-2024 period. This finding offered guidance for investors in these countries to construct the optimal portfolio …

How Rational Is Ai Investment Advice? Risk-Return Relevance In Artificial Intelligence (Ai) Investments, Oscar O. Gilbert, Tianxiang Chu
How Rational Is Ai Investment Advice? Risk-Return Relevance In Artificial Intelligence (Ai) Investments, Oscar O. Gilbert, Tianxiang Chu
Create@State
Textbook finance theories indicate that investors demand risk premia from risky assets as compensation for risk and for hedging against future unfavorable economic states. We design a comprehensive study to examine whether investment advice generated by artificial intelligence (AI) reflects a coherent risk–return pattern in investment decision-making. We find that AI advises investors to increase stock investments when return increases and reduce stock allocations when stock volatility increases. However, AI ignores the hedging role of the stock market with consumption growth. A low risk aversion cannot explain this failure to respond to consumption-related risk. We further find that AI provides …
Older Adults And Emerging Technology Fraud In The Ai Deepfake Era, Thiago Neves
Older Adults And Emerging Technology Fraud In The Ai Deepfake Era, Thiago Neves
Research Days
Artificial intelligence has accelerated faster than society's ability to adapt, leaving older adults extremely vulnerable to AI-generated fraud. Americans over age 60 lost $4.9 billion to scams in 2024, 43% more than the previous year. In this research, I investigate how digital illiteracy, combined with AI-generated deepfakes, creates this crisis. Older adults struggle with three principal vulnerabilities: distinguishing legitimate sites from scams, judging whether online information is truthful, and understanding how algorithms use their data. AI weaponizes these gaps through voice clones, synthetic video calls, and personalized phishing emails that avoid the trust cues seniors tend to rely on. I …

Operational Architecture Models As A Determinant And Framework Of Return On Equity Structure, Aydin Dibonaventura
Bryant REDay (Research and Engagement Day)
Lots of data attained within standard business practices may be seen as very significant but straightforward and many individuals fail to acknowledge the additional value that these data based strategies provide. Businesses may undergo different management structures, unique operational strategies, or complex supply chain systems from one another, but they all manage to attain ROE results within the same range at the end of each fiscal year. The Dupont financial analysis is a commonly used methodology that dissects the basic ROE value into profit margin, asset turnover, and financial leverage. These three values allow those to not only digest what …

Expand Your Programs Through Collaboration, Bryan Brugger
Midwest Business Librarian Summit (MBLS)
It is possible to expand the reach of programming by collaborating with other libraries and community partners. Many business/finance/career development programs tend to pull small audiences. By working with other partners it is possible to offer more programs, typically virtual programs, with less effort for each library, and get a higher turnout at the same time. The Northbrook Library has engaged in 3 different partnerships since the pandemic began on a variety of topics and seen attendance reach numbers impossible for individual libraries to attain. This will look at these three partnerships and the results they have had.

Internationalization And Investment Efficiency, Alireza Askarzadeh, Kenneth Yung
Graduate Student Government Association Research Conference
Conflicting results in the literature regarding the effect of internationalization on firm performance motivate this study to examine this effect through an important but less studied channel. Unlike previous literature mainly focusing on the impact of internationalization on firm financial performance, this study examines operational performance and probes how internationalization affects firms’ investment inefficiency, thus demonstrating an important aspect in determining the success of international strategies. By applying the concepts of transaction cost economics and agency theory to a sample of US firms between 1989 and 2022, we find evidence that internationalization has a positive relationship with investment inefficiency and …

Historical Perspectives In Volatility Forecasting Methods With Machine Learning, Zhiang Qiu, Clemens Kownatzki, Fabien Scalzo, Eun Sang Cha
Seaver College Research And Scholarly Achievement Symposium
Volatility forecasting in the financial market plays a pivotal role across a spectrum of disciplines, such as risk management, option pricing, and market making. However, volatility forecasting is challenging because volatility can only be estimated, and different factors influence volatility, ranging from macroeconomic indicators to investor sentiments. While recent works suggest advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence for volatility forecasting, a comprehensive benchmark of current statistical and learning-based methods for such purposes is lacking. Thus, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive survey of the historical evolution of volatility forecasting with a comparative benchmark of key landmark models. We …
