This study presents a novel approach to price optimization in order to maximize revenue for the distribution market of non-perishable products. Data analysis techniques such as association mining, statistical modeling, machine learning, and an automated machine learning platform are used to forecast the demand for products considering the impact of pricing. The techniques used allow for accurate modeling of the customer’s buying patterns including cross effects such as cannibalization and the halo effect. This study explores the impact of the financial crisis on the relationship between stock market volatility and the business cycle. In addition, the possible spillover effects within a cross-country framework are also examined. The study is based on secondary macroeconomic data of monthly frequency for the time period of 1991:01 to 2012:12. Bivariate and multivariate causality techniques are used to arrive at results. Results of the study provide fresh evidence for the existence of strong bidirectional causality between stock market volatility and the business cycle for all sample countries. This paper examines wage variations and turnovers using a unique tracking survey data of Filipino youth who were initially sampled at Grade 6. The analysis also uses mathematics and English test scores at Grade 6 to proxy for cognitive abilities. The empirical results show that returns to education and ability increase with labor market experience and occupational upgrading. The study highlights the importance of academic achievements, measured by both years of schooling completed and academic test scores, in upgrading occupations of youth to realize higher returns in the labor market, even though many youths often start with irregular and undesirable …

Crowdfunding platforms serve to connect project creators and backers. Previous research has explored several project and platform determinants that impact crowdfunding outcomes. However, there has been limited research on these determinants at an individual level. Our paper addresses how backers may influence the outcomes of projects in crowdfunding platforms. We explore several methods commonly used in the industry to identify influence and show that centrality measures through a backer affiliation network best exemplifies influence. Although a restatement is usually assumed to result from fraudulent behavior, Plumlee and Yohn (2010) studied whether a restatement might be attributed to both errors in the corporation’s internal controls and intentional misrepresentation. By utilizing Heckman’s two-stage selection model, this paper attempts to establish correlates between an individual’s physical attractiveness and the employer’s hiring decisions and wage allocations in an experimental labor market. Undergraduate students from De La Salle University Manila represented the sample for applicants. The findings show that, first, beauty premium is lower for men—more physically attractive male candidates have lower chances of getting hired, and subsequently acquire lower wages than more physically attractive women. This study analyzes whether, under oligopolistic distribution channels, mutual fund fees are primarily determined by a distribution company’s transaction-specific variables. The results empirically demonstrate that the intensity of market competition influences determinants. Through analyses at the firm level, this study demonstrates that the characteristics of an oligopolistic structure, and particularly the financial segments and scales of fund distributors, are important determinants of mutual fund fees during a collusive period. It finds that subsequent to the enforcement of pro-competitive policies, fees become more sensitive to market discipline and distributors’ transactional characteristics, particularly to sales concentration.

With poverty reduction as the government’s primary goal, monitoring the poverty situation of households or individuals is deemed necessary. In the Philippines, several local government units (LGUs) have adopted the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) as a local poverty monitoring tool. This study used the constructed CBMS panel data for the municipality of Orion in Bataan province covering the period 2006, 2009, and 2012 to identify chronic and transient poor households based on the duration of poverty. Crowdfunding is the practice of seeking support from a large number of backers, each funding a small amount, in order to reach a specific funding goal. This monograph examines: (1) the field of crowdfunding, (2) how it has evolved, (3) the impact crowdfunding has on the fields of innovation, marketing and finance and (4) the factors that can affect crowdfunding outcomes.
