Confidence In Personal Style: A Self-Empowered Path Toward Sustainable Clothing Consumption?, Catherine A. Roster
Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2024
This study examined the impact of clothing style confidence on sustainable clothing behaviors. An Internet survey was conducted with a valid sample of 560 U.S. residents equally split by gender between the ages of 25 to 65 purchased from Prolific. Five sub-dimensions of the Clothing Style Confidence scale (i.e., style longevity, aesthetic perceptive ability, creativity, appearance importance, and authenticity) were predicted to positively influence four dependent variables: clothing care and maintenance, purchase of environmentally friendly apparel, likelihood of clothing rental, and interest in upcycled clothing. PLS-SEM was used for data analysis. For both males and females, higher style confidence was …

Optimizing Customer Experience In The Luxury Industry Through Ai Technologies. A Firm Perspective, Pradeep Kumar Ponnamma Divakaran, Louise Ivars
Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2024
The aim of this study is to examine the possible impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on enhancing customer experience throughout the customer purchasing process, specifically within the luxury sector. To achieve this objective, we carried out a qualitative investigation consisting of semi-structured interviews with experts in artificial intelligence and managers specializing in customer experience. The findings show that customer experience plays a significant role in luxury brands' ability to win customer loyalty. AI has the ability to improve customer experience by offering highly personalized services through the use of purchase forecasting and automatic customization. This allows luxury brands to provide …

Swipe, Shop, Signal: Exploring The Dynamics Of Status-Seeking And Mobile Engagement In The Luxury Market, Aaron C. Lawry, Niland Mortimer
Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2024
This paper explores the dynamics of luxury mobile experiences and focuses on status-seeking as a key driver of engagement. By synthesizing the luxury research and mobile commerce literature, the authors argue that fashion opinion leaders and younger consumers shown to exhibit status-seeking propensities and demonstrate high involvement with fashion and smartphones, which likely increases their adoption of luxury mobile apps. Therefore, five hypotheses were drawn from Vigneron and Johnson's (1999) prestige-seeking consumer behavior framework to develop a theoretical model and empirically test these assumptions. This model enabled the researchers to conceptualize and investigate the relationships between fashion opinion leadership, age, …

Publications and Research
Purpose
This study examined perceived brand attractiveness of and identification with fashion luxury brands given different levels of sexuality in advertisements. Sex in advertisements has become increasingly more common to generate attention and interest in fashion luxury products, with limited research on its influence on the consumer. However, the use of sexuality in luxury advertisements may counter the ethical expectations of brands by the current consumer in the United States.
Design/methodology/approach
A sample of 1,266 males and females completed a survey on brand attractiveness and identification after examining an advertisement of a luxury fashion product. Participants were assigned an advertisement …
New Gender Identity In The Fashion Global Workforce, Malik Lee
New Gender Identity In The Fashion Global Workforce, Malik Lee
Publications and Research
In the new global workplace, there is an estimation of at least 40% of employees do not identify as either male or female but rather transgender meaning non-binary, not identify as either male or female (Inclusion, 2023). While there is some acceptance of non-binary employees in the workplace, there are still challenges these individuals face from other LGBTQ employees. It is important that inclusion and diversity are among the human resources practices for all genders. In the United States, the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) was created as part of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which as an effort to …

Honors Projects in Finance
This research study is an examination of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the marketing and infrastructure of companies within the commercial fashion industry. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, this paper examines the purchasing preferences and behaviors of young adults and whether their opinions on diversity and inclusivity impact it. Second, this paper examines the financial impact of companies that adopted an inclusive and diverse approach to their marketing strategies and company infrastructure. I hypothesize that inclusivity and diversity are qualities highly valued by consumers and would thus have a positive financial impact on companies that focus on …
The Role Of Worker-Driven Regulation In The Global Fashion Industry, Jessie Wills
The Role Of Worker-Driven Regulation In The Global Fashion Industry, Jessie Wills
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
The global fashion industry continues to exploit workers at the bottom of its supply chains. Multinational brands pressure manufacturers to churn out products at increasingly fast rates for increasingly cheaper costs. Severe problems persist in enforcing labor standards in these factories, and methods like voluntary corporate social responsibility are aspirational at best. A newer method of enforcement, worker-driven regulation (WDR), shows promise in its improved enforceability methods and focus on worker voices. The main research question of this paper is: What are the conditions that trigger and sustain worker-driven regulation at the factory level in the apparel industry?
Research methods …

Fashion is driven by a narrative, i.e. a story or idea that the designer wants to convey to the audience. Fashion-tech now adds another dimension to this narrative through dynamically changing aspects of the garments. Many factors of presentation in a runway show affect how fashion-tech garments communicate a story to the audience. In this pictorial, we review a set of twenty-eight storytelling fashion-tech garments. We identify, catalogue, and categorize the factors designers used to convey stories to the audience from the runway. The design space consists of three levels: (1) the artifact-level, (2) the viewer-level, and (3) the context-level. …

What Is Fast Fashion?, Morgan Laster
What Is Fast Fashion?, Morgan Laster
Sociology Summer Fellows
When most people think of fast fashion, they probably picture a company like Shein or Forever21. But what exactly is fast fashion? And when did it first emerge as a term? I tracked the evolution of what is called fast fashion by examining different sources in which the term has been mentioned. Many have accepted that the New York Times coined the term in 1989, but I discovered even earlier mentions, suggesting the importance of fact-checking widely accepted attributions. In total, I gathered 75 definitions of fast fashion and combined them into a composite definition: fast fashion is when designers …

These value elements will be explored to explain consumer preferences.

Assessment Of Factors Affecting Dropout Intentions During The First Year In A Modeling School, Mauro Echeverri
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
To date, there has been little research done on student dropout rates in modeling schools. This quantitative study utilizes applied research methods to analyze 138 female students in STAGE, a modeling school, where most students are between the ages of 11 and 18 years old. This study aims to examine why students drop out during their first year of study. The model utilized in this research integrates variables derived from Vincent Tito’s theory of departure, in addition to other variables not included in this theory like the parental support impact on extracurricular activities. Correlations analyses were used to assess the …
