Improving Transfer Portal Decision-Making Through A Microsoft Excel Optimization Model, Peyton Steffes
Improving Transfer Portal Decision-Making Through A Microsoft Excel Optimization Model, Peyton Steffes
Honors Projects
The creation of the transfer portal has increased the mobility of collegiate athletes, giving players the autonomy to switch teams throughout their career. As a result, the roster development process has become more complex, as coaches are tasked with the challenge of recruiting from the transfer portal, which involves an extensive decision-making process. Coaches not only have to evaluate a substantial pool of players, but they also must consider the following constraints they are under: scholarship budget, roster spots available, and positional needs. To simplify this decision-making process, this analysis includes the results of a Microsoft Excel data optimization model …

This paper explores how data analytics can be incorporated in financial risk management and thus serve as a basis for effective financial risk management decision support and financial system resilience. Traditional risk assessment methods are less effective in the face of growing volumes, velocity and complexity of data, especially in pinpointing new systemic risks, interconnections, market shocks, and institutional stress. The study examines the use of machine learning, real-time monitoring, stress testing and early-warning systems in the detection, assessment, and mitigation of credit, market, liquidity, operational, and systemic risks through descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics. It takes a conceptual and …

As technology accelerates and gains importance in the accounting industry, the inclusion of technology in accounting curricula also becomes more important. Indeed, this inclusion is a requirement of the academic accounting accrediting body, The American Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). However, neither minimal guidance nor standards for meeting the technology requirements currently exist. This topic paper examines how academic accounting departments may address data analytics as a component of the AACSB’s technology requirement. The analysis synthesizes peer-reviewed articles exploring how data analytics are being integrated into accounting curricula and identifies three main concerns: (1) the need for …

Price Prediction In The Sharing Economy: A Case Study With Airbnb Data, Brandon Mcneil
Honors Theses and Capstones
Many sharing-economy companies like Airbnb have their profits rely on the dynamic pricing market that they participate in. Airbnb hosts can set their own price based on what they deem the market will buy. Recent research argues that almost all hosts fail to maximize their potential profit due to poorly pricing their listing (Gibbs et al., 2018). While previous studies have looked at how specific variables effect the price of an Airbnb listing, this study aims to be the first to group variables separately into two distinct categories based on the host’s ability to control that variable. Looking at two …
