This paper presents how the Internet can be used to bring contemporary issues into the accounting capstone course to enhance student interest and learning. While existing cases have been reviewed and structured, they focus on issues that may not be at the forefront of the items currently under examination and/or debate by the accounting profession. There is a shortage of accounting faculty and this shortage is predicted to worsen in the future. The number of new PhDs in accounting has declined from approximately 200 per year in the late 1980' s and early 1990' s to just over I 00 per year in recent years. Currently, we expect approximately 400 to 500 new accounting faculty positions to open up annually over the next to five to ten years. Turning A Small Residential Farm Into A Non-Profit Educational Organization, Thomas John Anderson

This study was undertaken to determine whether Felicity’s Farm could become a non-profit organization for education. In order to determine the feasibility of turning Felicity’s Farm into a non-profit organization, interviews were conducted and financial statements were collected. In addition, a Certificate of Incorporation was completed based on the interview and financial data. It was concluded that Felicity’s Farm could become a non-profit organization; however, better organization of finances, fund-raising and the use of volunteers was recommended.

Many different styles exist for teaching accounting. Throughout the years, the authors applied different teaching methodologies in their accounting courses. They found that engaging students in the classroom setting helps the students to stay on task and makes the classroom experience more meaningful. This paper describes processes the authors used to enable students to actively participate in the learning process during class time.

The increased focus on ethical decision making in the accounting profession has resulted in greater attention being paid to the education of future accountants. Texas is one of the states that requires a State Board approved university course in Accounting Ethics to be on the transcript of prospective CPA candidates. This study reports on research using senior/graduate level accounting majors at a Texas state university before the university course requirement and after the requirement. This manuscript initially reviews the accounting literature which illustrates the extent to which many faculty members do not publish. The authors offer a number of suggestions for how doctoral programs can help their students be more productive after they take faculty positions. The authors also make suggestions for ways faculty members can increase the likelihood their manuscript submissions will be published.

The impact and use of technology on learning outcomes for accounting students is not well understood. This study investigated impact of design features of an ‘off the shelf’ Learning Management System (LMS) in teaching undergraduate accounting students. Specifically, responses elicited from students located in the UK, Australia and New Zealand form the basis of the study which reports on a number of design features in the LMS (e.g. delivery of lecture notes, announcements, on-line assessment and model answers) used to deliver learning materials regarded as necessary to enhance learning outcomes.
