Race concordance between patients and clinicians is frequently promoted as a strategy to improve trust and engagement for Black men in healthcare. Evidence suggests that encounters with Black male clinicians often increase patient comfort and observable engagement; however, engagement alone does not necessarily reflect trust. Drawing on professional experience as a nurse and researcher working with Black men, and on prior research examining shared decision-making preferences among Black men with hypertension in the U.S. Mid-South, this Personal Narrative examines how race-concordant encounters may rely on presumed trust, leading clinicians to advance diagnosis and treatment planning without adequate co-construction of care. …

Violence against healthcare workers continues to escalate despite substantial investments in security measures, workplace violence prevention programs, and legislative protections. Although these interventions are necessary, they have not produced sustained improvements in workforce safety or retention, suggesting that workplace violence is more than a behavioral or security problem. This commentary argues that it also reflects a deeper erosion of trust within healthcare. We employ multivariate statistical modeling and Monte Carlo simulation to study systematic and unsystematic financial risk faced by physician groups under capitated contracts with Medicare Advantage Organizations (MAOs). We use mixed methods and a standard reimbursement formula for risk-sharing contracts with primary care physicians (PCPs). We find that diversifying risk simply by increasing the size of a practice is insufficient to mitigate risks of large negative cash flows from capitation contracts and can result in financial failure. Problem: Same-day surgical cancellations in the outpatient surgery setting remain a significant operational and patient care challenge. Preventable cancellations negatively affect patient experience, operating room efficiency, staff productivity, and healthcare costs. 

Context: A microsystem and organizational culture assessment identified several factors contributing to same-day cancellations, including unclear preoperative instructions, incomplete medical clearance, inconsistent patient education, lack of standardized workflows, unclear staff responsibilities, and communication gaps among interdisciplinary teams. SWOT and gap analyses were used to identify opportunities for improvement and guide intervention planning.

Chatbots are increasingly used in public service delivery, yet many remain difficult to use because their scope, conversational flow and persona are poorly designed. This study evaluates whether a human-centered design (HCD) approach can improve the usability of a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) chatbot developed for the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA). The chatbot was designed iteratively through stakeholder consultation and expert input, with explicit attention to scope clarity, error handling, multi-turn flow and transparent persona design. Despite increasing visibility in Philippine media, LGBTQ+ representation remains dominated by metropolitan-centric narratives and reductive tropes that overlook the nuanced realities of provincial queer life. The study explored how BEKIZINE, a community-centered zine created by and for LGBTQ+ individuals aged 18–30 in Cavite, can serve as alternative media for self-expression, community building, and historical preservation. This paper discusses the artistic representation of the muffling of women’s voices and the culture of silence through a theoretically auto-destructive method of artmaking—bleaching using mark-making on textile. This reflective-practice study examines how kapwa and pakikipagkapwa emerged through translation, rehearsal, staging, and reception in three Philippine productions of Samuel Beckett: Endgame (2016), Happy Days (2019), and the devised classroom piece Beckett, Godot & Us Waiting (2023). This paper estimates the average causal effect of access to subsidized before- and after-school care on the labour market outcomes of mothers. Specifically, we analyze a major policy reform implemented in Quebec (Canada) in 1998, which required all public primary schools to provide before- and after-school care at a low fixed fee, thereby reducing costs and expanding availability for families. We identify the intent-to-treat effect of the reform on service use and maternal labour market outcomes using administrative tax return data and a triple difference design. Adaptive bounded-confidence models (ABCMs) elucidate the coevolution of agent states and network structure via local interactions and rewiring mechanisms. Traditional formulations assume uniform interaction parameters, leading to distinct regime shifts encompassing fragmentation, polarization, and consensus. A symmetric heterogeneous extension of the adaptive bounded-confidence model is introduced, in which interaction parameters vary according to whether agents belong to the same or different groups. The model retains the original update and rewiring protocols but integrates within-group and between-group confidence bounds alongside tolerance thresholds. The purpose of this dissertation research was to examine variability in coefficient alpha estimates across the 16 Learning Transfer System Inventory (LTSI) constructs and evaluate reliability-reporting practices within the literature using a reliability generalization meta-analysis. Studies published between 1997 and 2025 were identified through database searches and a review of Academy of Human Resource Development conference proceedings. Following screening and listwise deletion, 118 studies were included in the final analyses. This study critically examines the global startup movement through political economy, classical sociology, and Southern perspectives to assess whether digital entrepreneurship fosters genuine, decentralized innovation or perpetuates speculative financialization and labor precarity.
