Detecting Barriers And Drivers To The Adoption Of Circular Business Models In Small Companies From Developed And Developing Countries, Nathalie Touratier-Muller, Nikolina Koporcic, Stefan Markovic, Vesna Damnjanovic
AMTP Proceedings 2024
Circular business models (CBMs) have become crucial elements of the ecological and social transition of developed as well as developing countries. However, there is a lack of research focusing on small firms that are adopting CBMs, while facing various resource constraints. As small firms are becoming more conscious of the advantages of CBMs, there is a practical need to identify barriers and drivers to the adoption of those models, to accelerate their development trajectory. To contribute to these theoretical and practical needs, in this paper, we consider the CBMs of small firms and focus on a comparison between developed and …

The Dance Of Longevity: Rhythms Of Maturity In Mnes Subsidiary Management, Mehdi Rasouli Ghahroudi, Sundar Balakrishnan
AMTP Proceedings 2024
We investigate the factors influencing the sustainability of subsidiaries and their effective management in host countries over the long term. We explore the impact of subsidiary mandates on longstanding subsidiaries in comparison to younger counterparts, validating our hypotheses through the analysis of data from 1,463 Japanese subsidiaries operating in 26 developing and developed countries. Our findings reveal that efficiency and strategic asset-seeking subsidiaries are more likely to maintain longer operations in the host market. Additionally, we contribute to the literature by applying the resource-based view and institutional theory to promote the longevity of subsidiaries. Our results underscore the necessity of …
Reverse Flow Logistics In Manufacturing Operations, Jeffrey Wendt, Gary Holmes
Reverse Flow Logistics In Manufacturing Operations, Jeffrey Wendt, Gary Holmes
AMTP Proceedings 2024
The purpose of this research is to examine the suggestion that reverse flow can play a positive role in sustainable impacts and in reducing forward logistics cost structures. The coupling of both forward and reverse product and component flow can be a challenging task because, depending on the returned products’ disposition, the forward flow inventory management can be affected. The need for an integrated reverse supply chain that mirrors the forward supply chain is essential and failure in having forward visibility negates the reverse flow. If successful, it will result in reduced manufacturing costs and increased profits throughout the chain.

Business School Marketing Strategies For Enrollment Challenges In The Current Environment, Selcuk Ertekin
AMTP Proceedings 2024
This article aims to understand the implications and remedies for the recent turmoil in business school enrollment and retention. By reviewing the academic business literature on enrollment decline and by incorporating a traditional marketing strategy framework, we categorized the existing studies to come up with a list for success. We found that business schools must revise their curriculum with sustainability and technological change in mind. They must invest in hedonic aspects of business education, consider adding creative internship opportunities and incorporate innovative online learning initiatives. They must also identify faculty super influencers and use social media in their promotions. Finally, …

The Interplay Of Organic Label, Natural Imagery, And Domestic Country-Of-Origin Claim In Shaping Consumer Responses: Independent, Interactive, And Conditional Effects, David Bourdin, Phillip Frankhofer
AMTP Proceedings 2024
With sustainable consumption on the rise, firms are increasingly showcasing their environmental efforts. However, it is still unclear how effective different verbal and visual ‘green’ product cues are in influencing consumer preferences. Addressing this gap, this study examines the independent and interactive effects of an organic label, natural imagery, and a local origin claim on consumer responses to packaged milk. Furthermore, the role of three potential moderators (green product skepticism, consumer ethnocentrism, and environmental concern) is considered. A 2x4 experimental study was conducted with 178 consumers. Structural equation modeling results show that an organic label and natural imagery indirectly increase …

AMTP Proceedings 2024
This research explores the interactions among societal, social, and social media marketing concepts to provide clarity and distinction. These concepts are often confused, causing misunderstanding and misuse in practice. Societal, social, and social media marketing concepts need to be differentiated from one another and linked to the appropriate marketing tactics for them to be understood and utilized effectively in practice.

Relationship Marketing And Collegiate Affinity Credit Cards: An Analysis Of Eleven Years Of Cfpb Data (2009 – 2020), Neleen S. Leslie-Piper
AMTP Proceedings 2024
Deregulation and increased market information have made competition fierce in today's market. Service marketers have sought to increase their competitive advantage by focusing on branding and social benefits to augment the functional benefits provided by the services they offer (Fock, Woo, and Hui, 2003). Financial services represent one such industry. Banks have, in recent decades, partnered with organizations with strong membership or supporter bases to create specialized products, including credit cards that are offered exclusively to various organizations. The primary goal of affinity marketing is to capitalize on the relationship between the affinity organization and its members for the promotion …

The Impact Of Environmental, Social And Governance (Esg) Practices On The Financial Performance Of Green Companies In Malaysia: An Empirical Analysis, Zaemah Zainuddin, Norazlina Abd. Wahab, Wahidah Shari, Muhamad Abrar Bahaman, Rosylin Mohd Yusof, Norzitah Abdul Karim
The Indonesian Capital Market Review
This study examines the relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) perfor- mance and the financial performance of green companies in Malaysia. Analyzing 280 observations from 56 green companies listed in Bursa Malaysia from 2016 to 2020, the study employs rigorous regression analysis. The results indicate that ESG performance does not significantly influence the financial performance of these green companies. Instead, total sales and liability significantly impact both Return on Asset (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). These findings suggest that, despite the growing emphasis on ESG in the business sphere, other internal factors may have a more substantial effect …

The information age provides vast opportunities for organizations to improve their efficiencies by relying on big data-AI empowered analytics (BDA). The purpose of this study is to address the critical question of how BDA-fit affects organizational financial performance, taking into consideration differences between markets and customer change caused by technology turbulence. Using data collected at the firm level and building on Task- Technology Fit Theory and Dynamic Capabilities Theory, empirical results indicate that BDA-fit is important to drive organizational financial performance through the development of customer-linking and selling capabilities. These results vary across markets, with BDA-fit having stronger effects on …

Separately Measuring Home-Field Advantage For Offenses And Defenses: A Panel-Data Study Of Constituent Channels Within Collegiate American Football, Matthew J. Mcmahon, Sarah Marx Quintanar
Economics & Finance Faculty Publications
We improve constituent-channel estimates of home-field and neutral-site advantage for collegiate American football's top division by utilizing a richer, 12-season data set and by exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic as a random shock. Novel to the literature, we separately examine points scored by each team, allowing us to identify impacts on each team's offense and defense individually. The information set provided by our model is a strict superset of that provided by the previous standard in the literature, making ours a strictly dominant modeling choice. We demonstrate this improvement theoretically and empirically. Physiologically, away-team travel distance does not impact their own …

Team Psychological Contracts: Effects Of Gender And Social Comparison Orientation, Bonnie S. O'Neill, Martin D. Hassell
Management Faculty Research and Publications
Understanding the psychological contract (PC) perceptions of college students is crucial for attracting and retaining them as early-career employees. We explore how gender and social comparison orientation (SCO) serve as antecedents and moderators of PC breach. Potential PC obligations were examined across 34 teams of full-time business students. Moderated relationships between SCO and gender were examined relative to PC development, breach, and commitment via a survey following a semester-long team project. Results showed that gender significantly influenced obligation perceptions, with females possessing stronger obligations of their team. Positive relationships existed between SCO and the strength of reported obligations and with …
Capital Market Liability Of Foreignness And Country-Of-Origin Stereotype: An Empirical Investigation, Abiodun Ige, Marvin Washington
Capital Market Liability Of Foreignness And Country-Of-Origin Stereotype: An Empirical Investigation, Abiodun Ige, Marvin Washington
Business Faculty Publications and Presentations
Foreign firms face a liability of foreignness (LOF) in capital markets outside their home countries. Focusing on discrimination hazards as an antecedent to capital market liability of foreignness (CMLOF), we extend the concept of country-of-origin stereotypes to capture discrimination hazards in capital markets. We employ data from foreign firms listed on the three major stock exchanges in the United States from 2002 to 2016 to demonstrate that, compared with domestic US firms, foreign firms are discounted on major stock exchanges in the US and that foreign firms from countries stereotyped as high-warmth and high-competence are not discounted. Our results reveal …

Tea Shop Manager is meant to be a business simulator game. Business is a subject that is difficult to learn especially as a child who may not understand how the world works yet. Business is all about its application to the real world, as a result the game will:
• Bring aspects of business, simplify it, and then apply it to a semi-realistic setting such as managing a shop.
• Concepts and skills will be taught through the user’s interaction with the game.
• Show statistics based on management performance.

The Fallacy Of Auditor Independence And A Possible Solution, Harrison Hall
Senior Honors Theses
The goal of this paper is to analyze present research for the importance of independence to the auditing profession, determine the greatest threats to auditor independence today, the problems these threats have caused and to explore a possible solution to these problems. For many years, audit professionals have been considered the gatekeepers of the public market. Since the passing of the Securities Acts in the 1930’s, the structure of the privatized audit industry has made it incredibly difficult for auditors to remain independent from their clients. Client fees, the rise of non-audit services and the complexity of audit-client relationships pose …

Accounting For The Gift: Theology And Ethics In Accounting, Daniel Sebastian
Accounting For The Gift: Theology And Ethics In Accounting, Daniel Sebastian
Religious Studies Theses and Dissertations
Accounting is often assumed to be a neutral presentation of the facts of economic activities and actions. Its double-entry system means that it is always in balance and comports to the rigor of mathematical formulas, and it is taken to be a matter of empirical counting that lends it certainty as well. The dissertation argues that this description of accounting is inadequate. Accounting is better seen as a political tool and technology for producing trust that can help resolve social conflicts. As such, accounting is not value-neutral but carries within it a particular sociality that has moral implications. These moral …
Analyzing Colonial South Carolina's Trade Landscape Through The Ricardian Model, Dylan M. Peddemors
Analyzing Colonial South Carolina's Trade Landscape Through The Ricardian Model, Dylan M. Peddemors
Senior Theses
The state of South Carolina existed as a British colony from its founding in 1663 until it declared independence in 1776. During this period, South Carolina operated as a plantation-based, cash-crop economy relying on two primary exports: rice and indigo. The colony displayed nearly complete specialization in its exports of these crops while importing different goods. The theory of comparative advantage in trade relationships crafted by British economist David Ricardo in the 18th century concludes that gains from trade emerge when trade partners specialize in the production and exportation of the goods of which they have the lowest opportunity cost. …

Designing Pareto-Optimal Selection Systems For Multiple Minority Subgroups And Multiple Criteria, Wilfried De Corte, Paul R. Sackett, Filip Lievens
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
Currently used Pareto-optimal (PO) approaches for balancing diversity and validity goals in selection can deal only with one minority group and one criterion. These are key limitations because the workplace and society at large are getting increasingly diverse and because selection system designers often have interest in multiple criteria. Therefore, the article extends existing methods for designing PO selection systems to situations involving multiple criteria and multiple minority groups (i.e., multiobjective PO selection systems). We first present a hybrid multiobjective PO approach for computing selection systems that are PO with respect to (a) a set of quality objectives (i.e., criteria) …
