Determining Strategies For Cost Effectiveness In Sustainable Healthcare Delivery – An Emerging Market Study, Francis Ikechukwu Igbo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractSome South African healthcare managers and physicians find sustaining quality, cost-effective healthcare services challenging. Healthcare leaders are concerned about the high cost of healthcare as it can negatively impact sustainability and patient outcomes. Grounded in the cost-effectiveness theory and complex adaptive system theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study was to explore strategies some South African healthcare leaders use to sustain healthcare delivery in lower- and middle-income countries. The participants were five healthcare practitioners in rural areas of South Africa. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and secondary data sources. Thematic analysis of the data yielded four themes: patients’ …

Strategies To Manage Quality In Outsourced Manufacturing Processes, Claudia Elizabeth Contreras

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Offshore outsourcing operations that involve high risks of noncompliance with quality specifications have been studied among scholars. Researchers have demonstrated that organizations pursue offshore outsourcing to reduce costs and to remain competitive; however, noncompliance with quality specifications increases product costs. Grounded in the total quality management model, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore business managers’ strategies used to ensure compliance with quality standards when outsourcing manufacturing processes internationally. The participants consisted of 3 managers of companies in Riverside County, California, who successfully outsourced offshore manufacturing operations. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and validated with …

Strategies To Obtain Certification For Cocoa Bean Production, Emmanuel Adem Opoku

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Leading cocoa-consuming countries have declared that in the year 2020, they will permit imports of sustainably sourced cocoa beans only, threatening the sustainability of the cocoa farming business. Successfull Implementation Of The Baldrige Performance Excellence Program In Small Businesses, Valentina Parra

Honors Undergraduate Theses

In recent years, companies have been focused on improving organizational performance and the loyalty of customers to improve sustainability in increasingly complex markets. The Baldrige Performance Excellence framework, generally referred to as the Baldrige criteria, was created to guide professionals in achieving these goals including defining a set of excellence criteria and offering an award program to recognize high-performing organizations. The principles of excellence focus on understanding and working for the stakeholders, improving performance and quality management, and strategically driving continuous improvement. The framework can be used for organizational self-assessments; however, many organizations find it challenging to interpret and apply …

The Role Of Human Resource-Related Quality Management Practices In New Product Development: A Dynamic Capability Perspective, Leopoldo J. Gutierrez-Gutierrez, Vanesa Barrales-Molina, Hale Kaynak

Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to adopt the dynamic capability (DC) view as a theoretical framework to empirically investigate the relationships among human resource (HR)-related quality management (QM) practices: new product development (NPD) as a specific DC, learning orientation, knowledge integration, and strategic flexibility. Learning orientation and knowledge integration represent two antecedents of strategic flexibility, and strategic flexibility is the developed ability that facilitates NPD.

Design/methodology/approach

To empirically test the relationships, the authors used data from 236 European firms and performed structural equation modeling.

Findings

Results indicate that HR-related QM practices contribute to creating a learning-oriented company, integrating …

Topics In Multivariate Time Series Analysis: Statistical Control, Dimension Reduction Visualization And Their Business Applications, Xuan Huang May 2010

Topics In Multivariate Time Series Analysis: Statistical Control, Dimension Reduction Visualization And Their Business Applications, Xuan Huang

Open Access Dissertations

Most business processes are, by nature, multivariate and autocorrelated. High-dimensionality is rooted in processes where more than one variable is considered simultaneously to provide a more comprehensive picture. Time series models are preferable to an independently identically distributed (I.I.D.) model because they capture the fact that many processes have a memory of their past. Examples of multivariate autocorrelation can be found in processes in the business fields such as Operations Management, Finance and Marketing. The topic of statistical control is most relevant to Quality Management. While both multivariate I.I.D. processes and univariate autocorrelated processes have received much attention in the …

Safety Culture As A Contemporary Healthcare Construct: Theoretical Review, Research Assessment, And Translation To Human Resource Management., Patrick Albert Palmieri Dec 2009

Safety Culture As A Contemporary Healthcare Construct: Theoretical Review, Research Assessment, And Translation To Human Resource Management., Patrick Albert Palmieri

Patrick Albert Palmieri

Through a number of comprehensive reviews, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) has recommended that healthcare organizations develop safety cultures in order to align delivery system processes with the workforce requirements to improve patient outcomes. Until health systems can provide safer care environments, patients remain at risk for suboptimal care and adverse outcomes. Health science researchers have begun to explore how safety cultures might act as an essential system feature to improve organizational outcomes. Since safety cultures are established via modification in employee safety perspective and work behavior, human resource professionals need to contribute to this developing organizational domain. The IOM …

Attribution Theory And Healthcare Culture: Translational Management Science Contributes A Framework To Identify The Etiology Of Punitive Clinical Environments, Patrick Albert Palmieri

Patrick Albert Palmieri

The Institute of Medicine’s seminal report, To err is human: Building a safer health system, established the national patient safety framework and initiated interest in changing the traditionally punitive healthcare culture. This paper reviews a multidisciplinary literature and offers an attribution framework to explicate the organizational processes that contribute to an industry-wide culture where clinicians are routinely blamed for adverse patient events. Attribution theory is concerned with the manner in which people explain the behaviors of others or themselves by assigning causality for events. To date, attribution theory, though well established in the management literature, has yet to be translated …

This quality revolution began in the mind of a humble immigrant to the United States, Joseph M. Juran. His contributions to industry are heralded around the world, and yet his life story has remained unknown until now. An Immigrant's Gift is a compelling and inspirational portrait of a brilliant mind and a great humanist, who, in an unassuming way, had a profound impact on the international business community and our everyday lives.

Service Quality & The Congruence Of Employee Perceptions & Customer Expectations: The Case Of An Electric Utility, Todd A. Finkle, Allen Klose

Todd A Finkle

Understanding how the quality of customer service is impacted by employees is essential to managing and improving customer service quality. This article develops a model that looks at the relationship between a series of two important customer service gaps. The first series of gaps (service provider gaps) is a result of the difference between consumers' and employees' expectations based on various dimensions of the customer service encounter. The second series of gaps (service quality gaps) occur when a difference exists between consumer expectations and the service they actually receive based on specific aspects of the customer service encounter. This study …
