It was early summer 2020. The Breonna Taylor and George Floyd murders were front of mind across the United States. People were flooding the streets of cities large and small, demanding an end to racist policies and actions embedded in the United States’ social fabric. At Six-String Biotech, ten employees of color went to company executives with their concerns about inclusion and equity inside their organization and the need for change. Cybercrime has evolved to be a menacing challenge to all the countries of the globe. Consequently, it has become necessary for effective laws and policies to be enacted and implemented globally. This paper aims to review the cybercrime legislation of three jurisdictions: Nigeria, South Africa, and the United Kingdom (UK), to examine how each country has conceptualised and legislated cybercrime. The paper begins with a discussion on the definitional considerations necessary for legislating cybercrime. Travel and tourism industries rely heavily on customer reviews from past travelers as an invaluable source for informing potential travelers’ decisions. Thanks to the internet, reviews are an invaluable source for both quantitative star ratings as well as qualitative text comments that evaluate travel experiences. In this paper we analyse this complex relationship between text comments and their associated star ratings; using existing literature we highlight their interplay to give an overall picture of customer satisfaction. Institutional Liquidity Costs, Internalized Retail Trade Imbalances, And The Cross Section Of Stock Returns, Yashar H. Barardehi, Dan Bernhardt, Zhi Da, Mitch Warachka

Order flow segmentation prevents direct interactions between U.S. retail and institutional investors. Using the imbalance in observable internalized retail trades, we show wholesalers use retail flow to provide liquidity to institutional investors, especially when liquidity is scarce. Our institutional liquidity cost () measures average absolute retail trade imbalances, positing that institutions holding stocks with greater such averages more often resort to the expensive wholesaler-provided liquidity. is correlated with expected institutional price impacts. Unlike existing illiquidity measures, has economically meaningful relations with institutional holding horizons and yields annualized liquidity premia of 2.7%–3.2% post-2010, even after excluding microcap stocks.

AMTP Proceedings 2025

This study examines optimal distinctiveness strategies in the Young Adult (YA) literature market, analyzing bestseller data across visual representation, author concentration, content diversification, and linguistic evolution. Results reveal increasing visual differentiation in book covers, growing reliance on established authors, gradual expansion of content diversity, and linguistic convergence in book descriptions. These findings demonstrate how publishers dynamically adjust various product aspects to achieve optimal distinctiveness, extending optimal distinctiveness theory to brand-level strategies in cultural industries.

Learned helplessness is a belief in one’s own powerlessness which may develop after repeated exposure to stressful situations ranging from domestic abuse to public education. Each July, 60,000 Catholic pilgrims walk from their home state of Querétaro, Mexico, to the Basilica of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico City, a journey totaling 17 days and 450 km. Roughly 25,000 of these pilgrims are women, who walk in their own group, one day ahead of the men (Catholic News Agency, 2018). The goal of this pilgrimage is to see the Virgin of Guadalupe, a strong symbol of Catholic and Mexican identity since her original appearance to an indigenous peasant man in 1531. In the 1920s, a protest movement named Ad(i) Dhar(a)m, or Original Religion, emerged in the British province of Punjab with the aim of establishing a religious identity for the untouchable castes and low-caste people, basically from the Sikh community. The Adi Dharmis venerated Sant (Saint) Ravidas, a medieval mystic poet, a Chamar or tanner by origin. The list of their gurus also included Maharishi Valmiki, the legendary first poet — Adi Kavi, or the author of Ramayana, as well as two low-caste Bhakti poets — Kabir and Namdev.

This collaborative autoethnography poses the research question; How does one’s experience of grief and anticipatory grief mobilise pilgrimage journeys to ancestral homelands? Two theoretical constructs found in the academic literature related to grief and loss are explored for their influence on both authors’ respective pilgrimage journeys to the Celtic ancestral homeland of their deceased and ‘vanishing’ fathers in Wales and Ireland. How should we conceive of a secular walking trail that traverses a country’s premier holy sites in and around its spiritual capital? The Kyoto Trail is something of an oddity in comparison to the plentiful sacred walking paths throughout Japan. The 84-kilometer circuit probes and circumambulates the city of Kyoto via a horseshoe-like arc. It links an array of holy mountains with lush realms of nature and connects dozens of famous pilgrimage locations of exceptionally varied descriptions. The study underscores the critical role of board characteristics in shaping product responsibility performance and, ultimately, firm growth, highlighting the nuanced dynamics within corporate governance. By leveraging data from the Refinitiv Database spanning five prominent ASEAN economies—Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand- the research comprehensively analyzes 100 companies during 2022. Employing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via Smart PLS, the study presents compelling evidence that board gender diversity and expertise are pivotal factors that enhance product responsibility performance. Diversified Firms And Corporate Labor Policy: The Role Of Managerial Equity Incentives, Aysha Akter, Mariem Khalifa, Mohammed Aminu Sualihu

In this study, we examine whether managers of diversified firms make efficient labor investment decisions. Using a sample of 36,102 firm-year observations over the period 1989–2021, we find that managers of diversified firms make inefficient labor investment decisions. This finding is robust to a battery of sensitivity tests, alternative model specifications, and endogeneity concerns. We further document that the positive relationship between diversification and inefficient labor investment is long lasting, but is attenuated when managers of diversified firms are granted equity incentives. Our results suggest that self-seeking managers may strategically use diversification to obfuscate their suboptimal behaviors. Overall, our findings …
