Alternative Fuel Sources For Crown's Fleet Of Cargo Vans, Phuong Eaton, Anthony Mensah

Master of Science in Logistics & Supply Chain Management Capstone Executive Summaries and Projects

Growing concerns of crude oil prices soaring per barrel level, conventional fuel consumers are affected by the cost of fuel per gallon of gasoline. This has impacted the bottom-line of many organizations in the transportation sector, relying heavily on gasoline. Therefore, embracing an alternative fuel initiative is important to addressing the issues of price fluctuations of crude oil. A business strategy to address issues of price fluctuations (crude oil), Crown Equipment Corporation is taking initiative to finding alternative fuel serving a fleet of service vans, with consideration for diesel, battery-electric (lithium), compressed natural gas (CNG), and liquid petroleum gas (LPG). …

Key Performance Indicators In An Agile Supply Chain, Jacob Langston Jan 2017

Key Performance Indicators In An Agile Supply Chain, Jacob Langston

Master of Information Systems Capstone Executive Summary

Agile supply chains offer the flexibility required to support customers who require a “quick response” to demand requirements. Coupled with lean process improvements and integrated solutions, cost-effective supply chains can be established that provide the infrastructure needed to support the agility needed to meet customer demands; ultimately increasing market share and continued growth. While Emerson’s mission to remain an industry leader in the HVAC&R Industry aligns with these aspects of supply chain management, current system infrastructure does not support such flexibility. Multiple execution tools, processes and one-off solutions make it difficult to standardize reporting methodologies for performance metrics. This leads …

Salesperson Ambidexterity And Customer Satisfaction: Examining The Role Of Customer Demandingness, Adaptive Selling, And Role Conflict, Raj Agnihotri, Colin B. Gabler, Omar S. Itani, Fernando Jaramillo, Michael T. Krush

Marketing Faculty Publications

This research investigates the effects of sales-service ambidexterity on salesperson role perceptions, behaviors, and customer satisfaction. Using a business-to-business, salesperson-customer sample, we build and test a model which highlights both the positive and negative consequences of this simultaneous goal pursuit. Specifically, while sales-service ambidexterity positively impacts adaptive selling behaviors, it also increases perceptions of role conflict among salespeople. Customer demandingness moderates these relationships. Taken together, the results provide insights for firms on how to manage their sales force to optimize both sales and service outcomes based on characteristics of their salespeople and customers.

Consignment Auctions: A Proposed Optional Channel For Reverse Logistics, Marvin Lovett

Marketing Faculty Publications

This paper addresses the proposed utilization of the C.A.L.M. Method-The Consignment Auction Liquidation Marketing Method of Mass Product Distribution-as an optional secondary market channel for reverse logistics requirements. This nontraditional method of product distribution was initiated over twenty years ago and can provide business organizations a further option for reverse logistic needs. Consignment auctions depend on securing good sources of merchandise sold at their auctions. Many business organizations including retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs often have excess and returned merchandise and can benefit from additional secondary market channel options to meet their reverse logistics needs. A review of both reverse …

Invisible Bosses For Invisible Workers, Or Why The Sharing Economy Is Actually Minimally Disruptive, Deepa Das Acevedo

Faculty Articles

Because the idea that sharing economy companies operate as invisible bosses is central to many critiques of this new approach to labor exchange, Part I begins by explaining just what it is about their authority that makes it “invisible.” Part II extends this discussion to two earlier developments that, like the sharing economy, also significantly transformed the way Americans work: the franchise explosion of the 1950s and the spread of the independent contractor model in the late twentieth century. This article is the first to offer a detailed comparison of work practices used by sharing economy companies, franchises, and some …

Marginalized To Mainstream: A Study Into Emerging Industry Under Stigma, Brandon K. Lee Jan 2017

Marginalized To Mainstream: A Study Into Emerging Industry Under Stigma, Brandon K. Lee

Honors College Theses

This explorative study attempts to identify norms and practices of new businesses within the emerging industry of recreational cannabis retailers; specifically in the context of their entrepreneurial characteristics, start-up behaviors, and firm behaviors and strategies (Duchesneau & Gartner, 1990). Due to the nature of emerging industries, there are many opportunities for firms to create a successful position in a new market. However, firms in emerging industries face an innate “liability of newness”, increasing the challenge and risk of new venture creation (Stinchcombe, 1965). This risk and stigma is increased when the industry lacks legitimacy in the eyes of consumers and …

If You Only Knew The Power Of The Dark Side: An Analysis Of The One-Sided Long Position Hedge Fund Public Disclosure Regime And A Call For Short Position Inclusion, Christian Bonser

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

Disclosure rules in the United States capital markets were designed to promote fairness among all participants by providing a transparent system for equal access to information. The interpretation of information is the foundation of all prudent investment decisions; thus, an efficient capital market depends on the proper disclosure of information. Hedge funds heavily influence and play an integral role in the proper functioning of capital markets. For the markets’ benefit, hedge funds must publicly disclose their investing activity, which consists of long positions, like buying stock to sell later, and short positions, like short selling.

However, while hedge funds are …

Dodd-Frank And The Spoofing Prohibition In Commodities Markets, Meric Sar Jan 2017

Dodd-Frank And The Spoofing Prohibition In Commodities Markets, Meric Sar

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

The Dodd-Frank Act amended the Commodity Exchange Act and adopted an explicit prohibition regarding activity commonly known as spoofing in commodities markets. This Note argues that the spoofing prohibition is a necessary step towards improved market discipline and price integrity in the relevant commodities markets. It fills an important gap in the CEA in relation to an elusive form of price manipulation activity by providing an explicit statutory authority on which regulators and market operators may rely in policing suspect trading strategies falling under the spoofing umbrella.

Congress’ explicit denouncement of spoofing as an illegal act has ramifications not only …

The Costs Of Bailouts In The 2007-08 Financial Crisis, Xiaoxi Liu Jan 2017

The Costs Of Bailouts In The 2007-08 Financial Crisis, Xiaoxi Liu

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

The 2007-08 bailout programs were initially created under the emergent situation of financial crisis. Despite their effectiveness in stopping the collapse of financial system, those bailouts have been criticized as ill-planned governmental intervention. Nonetheless, based on the calculation of both the dollar amount of return and the rate of return of each program, this Comment argues that the bailouts are in fact good investments. Furthermore, since Dodd-Frank was invented with the primary purpose of curtailing future bailouts, this Comment also argues that Dodd-Frank reflected an unwise, overhasty decision by Congress.

Regulatory Arbitrage And Hedge Fund Regulation: The Need For A Transnational Response, Hossein Nabilou Jan 2017

Regulatory Arbitrage And Hedge Fund Regulation: The Need For A Transnational Response, Hossein Nabilou

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

Regulatory arbitrage is an indispensable element of regulatory competition as it provides regulatory substitutes for firms, and allows those firms to optimally benefit from such competition. This also increases the elasticity of demand for regulators and engenders accountability among them. Hedge funds, as paragons of exploiting regulatory discrepancies, are heavily criticized for thwarting efforts to address systemic risk. This Article investigates the arbitrage-seeking behavior of hedge funds in a globally-fragmented financial regulatory framework.

Despite its benefits, regulatory arbitrage involves certain costs. Although market discipline can constrain these negative externalities, due to certain idiosyncratic features of the hedge fund industry, such …

Regulating A Revolution: From Regulatory Sandboxes To Smart Regulation, Dirk A. Zetzsche, Ross P. Buckley, Janos N. Barberis, Douglas W. Arner Jan 2017

Regulating A Revolution: From Regulatory Sandboxes To Smart Regulation, Dirk A. Zetzsche, Ross P. Buckley, Janos N. Barberis, Douglas W. Arner

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

Prior to the global financial crisis, financial innovation was viewed very positively, resulting in a laissez-faire, deregulatory approach to financial regulation. Since the crisis the regulatory pendulum has swung to the other extreme. Post-crisis regulation, plus rapid technological change, have spurred the development of financial technology (FinTech). FinTech firms and data-driven financial service providers profoundly challenge the current regulatory paradigm. Financial regulators increasingly seek to balance the traditional regulatory objectives of financial stability and consumer protection with promoting growth and innovation. The resulting regulatory innovations include RegTech, regulatory sandboxes, and special charters. This Article analyzes possible new regulatory approaches, ranging …

The Big Patent Short: Hedge Fund Challenges To Pharmaceutical Patents And The Need For Financial Regulation, Ariel D. Multak Jan 2017

The Big Patent Short: Hedge Fund Challenges To Pharmaceutical Patents And The Need For Financial Regulation, Ariel D. Multak

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

The enactment of the America Invents Act (AIA) in 2011 ushered in a new system for post-grant patent review. In the interest of enhancing the efficiency of the patent regime by invalidating “bad” patents, certain requirements were relaxed. For example, the AIA created an examination process called inter partes review, which allows a party without legal standing to challenge the validity of a patent in front of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. In the pharmaceutical patent context, it was expected that inter partes review would be utilized mostly by generic drug makers seeking to invalidate patents without incurring the …

Bringing Talent Off The Bench And Into The Game: The Underrepresentation Of Women In The Boardroom, Rachel Orbach Jan 2017

Bringing Talent Off The Bench And Into The Game: The Underrepresentation Of Women In The Boardroom, Rachel Orbach

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

While women have expanded their footprint in corporate America in recent years, they are still underrepresented in the upper echelons of corporate governance, specifically in boardrooms, which dictate the direction of a company. At the current rate, it will take more than four decades before women’s representation on corporate boards reaches parity with that of men. Women face obstacles that make it difficult to rise in the ranks of corporate America. This can be attributed to numerous factors that collectively burden women with expectations that are at odds with success. These factors include low representation of women in traditional pipelines …

Off The Chain! A Guide To Blockchain Derivatives Markets And The Implications On Systemic Risk, Ryan Surujnath Jan 2017

Off The Chain! A Guide To Blockchain Derivatives Markets And The Implications On Systemic Risk, Ryan Surujnath

Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law

Blockchains are publicly viewable and theoretically unalterable records of bitcoin transactions. They are thus crucial to the functionality of cryptocurrencies. Through the blockchain, bitcoin algorithmically decentralizes the maintenance of the transaction ledger and delegates the task to users on its network.

Blockchain technology shows promise beyond cryptocurrency: banking and financial institutions have established partnerships with fintech firms to explore the applicability of blockchains in capital markets. Blockchains, used in conjunction with self-executing smartcontracts, present particularly compelling opportunities in derivatives markets, which are typically beset by numerous intermediaries. The blockchain could radically reinvent the existing market infrastructure. Certain intermediaries like central …

Some Remarks On Real Estate Pricing, Crocker H. Liu, Adam Nowak, Patrick S. Smith Jan 2017

Some Remarks On Real Estate Pricing, Crocker H. Liu, Adam Nowak, Patrick S. Smith

Economics Faculty Working Papers Series

This paper develops a framework for addressing the omitted variable bias that plagues most real estate research. We incorporate qualitative information from text to control for property attributes that are generally unobserved. The textual information is entered by real estate agents for every property sold on a Multiple Listing Service (MLS). The agents, who arguably have the most local market and property specific knowledge, use the unstructured text to highlight important information that is not clearly conveyed in other areas of the listing. Although the framework can be applied universally in real estate research, we demonstrate its effectiveness in the …
