Role Of Civil Society Organizations In Conflict Resolution And Peacebuilding In Ghana, Abdul Karim Issifu Mr
Role Of Civil Society Organizations In Conflict Resolution And Peacebuilding In Ghana, Abdul Karim Issifu Mr
Journal of Interdisciplinary Conflict Science
Ghana is both locally and internationally described as an oasis of peace and stability on a continent circumvented by conflicts. The country has not experienced any form of large-scale violence or civil war since independence in March 1957. Nevertheless, it is faced with pockets of relative violence, including chieftaincy conflict and land dispute, killing several people and destroying many properties. In an effort to help resolve these conflicts, the Ghanaian government ends up prolonging it due to its position in some of the conflicts. However, the review of secondary data revealed that many of the conflicts in Ghana have often …
Manoeuvrability-Based Critical Time For Preventing Close-Quarters Situations, Chi-Cheng Tsai, Jiang-Ren Chang, Chih-Li Chen
Manoeuvrability-Based Critical Time For Preventing Close-Quarters Situations, Chi-Cheng Tsai, Jiang-Ren Chang, Chih-Li Chen
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
This paper deals with the COLREGS-complaint actions and the critical time for preventing close-quarters situations, from the viewpoint of a stand-on vessel. A model based on the dynamic game of complete information (DGCI) is formulated for three collision situations, and the COLREGS-complaint actions are obtained. The critical time is then composed by the alteration time and the physical time delay. The alteration time is determined by using analytic geometry with relative motion. Considering manoeuvrability of the vessels, an equation to estimate the physical time delay is derived from the MSC.137(76) Standards for Ship Manoeuvrability. Then, the critical time can be …
Key Influence Factors For Ocean Freight Forwarders Selecting Container Shipping Lines Using The Revised Dematel Approach, Tien-Chun Ho, Rong-Her Chiu, Cheng-Chi Chung, Hsuan-Shih Lee
Key Influence Factors For Ocean Freight Forwarders Selecting Container Shipping Lines Using The Revised Dematel Approach, Tien-Chun Ho, Rong-Her Chiu, Cheng-Chi Chung, Hsuan-Shih Lee
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
More than 80% of container traffic in the global container shipping market in recent years is derived from ocean freight forwarders (OFFs). It raises concern about the OFFs' role in coordinating the services between container shipping lines (CSLs) and shippers. Most previous studies did not distinguish the identity of shippers among OFFs, direct shippers, and routing order exporters. There have been some studies examining the factors for OFFs selecting CSLs by the method of decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory analysis (DEMATEL), but the initial direct relationship matrix may not have convergence to zero in the original version of DEMATEL. Moreover, …

The Arizona Market: A Marketing Systems Perspective On Pre- And Post-War Developments In Bosnia, With Implications For Sustainable Peace And Prosperity, Katherine Sredl
School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Through this longitudinal study of a historically significant, complex, conflicted and evolving macromarketing space, Bosnia’s Arizona Market, the authors reveal that marketing systems are not merely random artifacts of human behavior; rather, they are adaptive, purposeful, can be pernicious and/or provisioning, and ultimately—if they are to reflect our humanity—must be well integrated into other prosocial systems to affect the best possible outcomes for all stakeholders. By engaging with a marketing system in a post-conflict, divided society, we are better able to understand the genesis and evolution of markets and marketing systems; the relationships among war economy, peace accords, and the …

At the center of the word "power" is the word "WE." We, as global women leaders, must maneuver through complex layers of culture, history, identity, context, and resources to exercise our power. Leading requires balancing both the challenges and the opportunities to capitalize on our individual and collective power. This diverse international panel of four distinguished women explores power and influence in politics, education, business, nonprofits, and communities. This engaging plenary will discuss how women "do power," how we might "do power differently," and how cultivating our whole selves can lead to finding and using our influence authentically.

Fossil Fuel Asset Risk Analysis: Clark University Endowment, Travis A. Dodge, B. Maiwand Akbari

The environmental and social risks of climate change are well known and perhaps inevitable. The economic and financial risks are less so. The many financial risks associated with climate change embedded in endowment portfolio fossil fuel holdings are leading many institutional stakeholders to enter into dialogue and take action. Divestment is emerging as an effective strategy for limiting portfolio exposure and tackling climate change itself.
Our team’s goals were to assess whether the Clark University endowment portfolio faces any of these risks and evaluate the impacts on asset values. Our findings show that the Clark endowment does face these same …

P/E Ratios And Value Investor Attention, Jordan Moore
P/E Ratios And Value Investor Attention, Jordan Moore
Rohrer College of Business Departmental Research
Price-earnings (P/E) ratios, the most popular value proxy, are widely reported using the last four quarters of earnings. Corresponding earnings yields (4QEP) have significantly greater return predictability than lagged earnings yields or current book-to-market ratios. The weekly pattern in returns is consistent with individual investor trading activity. The return predictability is robust to fundamentals, price momentum, earnings momentum, volume, and liquidity. 4QEP relates positively to volume and liquidity and negatively to idiosyncratic volatility. Financial data providers only report P/E ratios for stocks with positive earnings; 4QEP only predicts returns, volume, and liquidity for these stocks.

Identity Discovery And Verification In Artist- Entrepreneurs: An Active Learning Exercise, A. Erin Bass
Marketing and Management Faculty Publications
Entrepreneurship curricula are becoming increasingly more interdisciplinary, with higher education institutions offering a variety of “entrepreneurship and” courses that cross the boundaries into other fields. Despite this, many entrepreneurship curricula are centered on business theory, which is not suitable for nonbusiness students. For example, business students are trained to define success by financial statements and organizational viability, whereas artists enjoy success by achieving creative satisfaction. This article explores the importance of identity to the entrepreneurial process, highlighting the similarities and differences between the artist and entrepreneur identities. Pedagogical in approach, the article demonstrates the utility of an active learning exercise …

Women-owned businesses have an economic impact of nearly $3 trillion in the U.S. Despite the tremendous opportunity for economic growth they present, women entrepreneurs lag behind their male counterparts in terms of number of start-ups and scaling of businesses. To understand how and why this may be taking shape, we focus on the role of entrepreneur support organizations (ESOs) or those organizations that act as intermediaries between the resources of a local ecosystem and entrepreneurs. All organizations that have as their proverbial mission to serve, support or partner with entrepreneurs can be categorized as ESOs. Given their role as decision …

An Investigation In The Methodological Approaches Used In Doctoral Business Research In Ireland, Paul Mc Manus, Sue Mulhall, Mohamed Ragab, Amr Arisha
Conference papers
The sizeable increase in doctoral business research in Ireland over past decades is characterised by a diversity of research paradigms and the methods applied. To achieve research objectives, doctoral researchers should identify the methodological framework of inquiry that they will use to address and answer their research question. This involves taking a stance on divergent philosophical assertions such as ontology and epistemology, which reflect how they view the world. Researchers often proceed to select what is believed to be the best- suited research approach – either qualitative, quantitative, or a mixture between them – with their corresponding subset of data …
