This study covers a decade of academic research in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) field, offering an in-depth analytical review focused on the existing trends and gaps in the supply chain literature. Nine academic journals were investigated and a subject categorization is developed for SCM research. A content analysis was then conducted on 405 articles, focusing on the categories covered within the SCM literature, various levels of the chain examined and sample populations and industries studied, as well as the research methods employed. Finally, a conceptual framework of the most highly researched categories in SCM indicates that there is a …

The objective of our paper is to identify factors and develop constructs that could be used to develop a conceptual Total Quality Management (TQM) model that is applicable to small and medium scale manufacturers in the United States. The data for this study was collected from a mail survey targeted to managers in the manufacturing plants. Responses were analyzed and factor analysis was used to develop measurement instruments.

Pomegranates - New Woolbelt Opportunities, Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia

The capture of fresh surface water has the potential to open up areas of the 'woolbelt' of Western Australia to intensive agricultural industries.

In 2005-06 the Department of Agriculture and Food (DAFWA) investigated surface run-off in the medium rainfall zone (500-825 mm) of south-western Australia. It aimed to identify areas with sufficient freshwater resources and suitable land for intensive production.

The scoping study, based on broad scale modelling and land-soil capability assessment, found that there was some potential to develop large reliable water supplies to support perennial horticulture.

The article analyzes disclosures of material weaknesses in internal control after the implementation of U.S. Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) 404 and summarizes the efforts of firms to remediate such material weaknesses. According to SOX section 404, management must issue a report on the effectiveness of the internal control of the firm over financial reporting. It notes that a report must be issued by the external auditor expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting.

The objective of this dissertation is to determine production schedules, production quantities, selling prices, and new product introduction timing to fulfill deterministic price-dependent demand for a series of products in such a way as to maximize profit per period.

In order to accomplish the above task, some main assumptions are made. First, it is assumed that the series of products being considered are associated with sequential non-disruptive innovations in technology as well as disruptive innovations in fashion. The Institute for Policy and Economic Development (IPED) at the University of Texas at El Paso conducted an analysis of bilingualism in the workplace between El Paso and other regions. This study, performed for the City of El Paso Department of Economic Development, highlights El Paso’s bilingual workforce in 22 occupational groups and 20 industry sectors and makes cross-sectional comparisons to 19 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) that are in geographic proximity or contain a high number or percentage of Spanish-speaking populations. Organizations should not only recognize and minimize traditional downside risks, but also embrace upside risks, or opportunities, as a strategy for success. According to a 2005 survey by management consulting firm Booz Allen, 87 percent of the market value lost by large companies with market capitalizations over US $1 billion was the result of strategic and operational blunders. Compliance failure, typically the focus of downside risk, destroyed only 13 percent of market value during the five-year study. Faced with this counter-intuitive finding, companies may wish to pursue a more balanced and positive approach to risk management. Enterprise risk management (ERM) …

A Forgiving Workplace: An Investigation Of Forgiveness Climate, Individual Differences And Workplace Outcomes, Susie Cox

Although forgiveness has been studied for centuries, it is a relatively new area of study in organizational behavior. Organizational climate has a history of influencing individual behaviors. This dissertation considers how a climate of forgiveness may foster a willingness to forgive in individuals. A measure of forgiveness climate is developed and empirically examined. The results of this study support the hypothesis that a cohesive/supportive climate and a trustworthy/integrity climate relate to a climate of forgiveness. Furthermore, this study examines the effects of climate on willingness to forgive. A scenario-based scale to measure willingness to forgive workplace offenses is developed. Willingness …

This study focused on philanthropic organizations that are engaged in organized grantmaking in San Diego County. The bulk of the organizations studied are classified as private foundations; data that describe other important grantmaking organizations—i.e., San Diego’s community foundations, selected corporate giving programs, and the United Way of San Diego—also were analyzed.

WiLDCOAST, an environmental nonprofit on the United States-Mexico border has a program that focuses on the flow of used tires into California from Mexico was a huge burden on local communities. This program was the basis for this advocacy campaign which focuses on a legislative "fix" to "break the tire cycle," and reduce the associated economic, public health, and environmental impacts that these tires cause.

This project became state law.

Why Students Misbehave In Class: An Empirical Analysis Of Classroom Incivilities, Hilde Patron, Timothy O. Bisping

Classroom incivilities are distracting to everyone involved in the learning process. Insight into the causes of these behaviors could potentially lead educators to successfully develop methods of reducing their prevalence. Many studies have discussed the causes and consequences of classroom behavior, though empirical evidence is lacking. In this paper we empirically examine the factors associated with six different types of student classroom incivilities using a sample of business students registered in principles of economics courses. Our experience demonstrates that, although each type of incivility has a unique set of determinants, some general conclusions can be drawn. First, though students and …

This paper presents results of a survey of student perceptions of the use of an online text combined with a homework management product (Aplia). A majority of the students taking the undergraduate economics courses in our sample (58%) disliked using the online textbook combined with the Aplia product. On the other hand, an even greater percentage of students (64%) felt that the utilization of the online textbook combined with Aplia assignments did require that they spend more time studying economics. "About two weeks before internal auditors at WorldCom began questioning capital expense adjustments, the Fort Worth Weekly (cite below) published the story of Kim Emigh, who was fired for questioning inappropriate accounting practices at WorldCom. The article first caught the attention of Mark Abide, the director of property accounting at WorldCom. On May 21, Mr. Abide forwarded the article to Glyn Smith on the internal audit staff, with a note saying that the allegations of the accounting misdeeds by Emigh were ‘worth looking into’ (Krim 2002). The purpose of this paper is threefold: 1) compare the labor arbitration procedures of the U.S. and China; 2) identify labor issues that may be problematic for China in the future; and 3) recommend how China may address future workplace problems in its emerging economy. It is generally accepted that American labor arbitration is not a perfect process, but it is a reasonable Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) Procedure. "This paper examines the effect commuting has on wages in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming. As there is no major metropolitan area within commuting distance, commuting patterns are likely to differ from those found in and around large cities. Given these differences, prior research that has focused on national or metropolitan data may not be relevant to the region. The results suggest longer commutes are associated with higher pay, but the rate of compensation is significantly lower than estimates using metropolitan data. Furthermore, professionally qualified workers are not compensated for longer commutes. It is argued that professionally …

It is not uncommon for students to have preconceptions of a class before it begins. These preconceptions may come from information about a class, often through word of mouth, or knowledge that the class requires skills inconsistent with the student’s skill set. These preconceptions of a class may have a positive or negative effect on how a student initially feels about the class, and may, in fact, have an effect on end-of-term student evaluations.
