Classroom interactivity is a critical component of teaching and learning. This paper reports on the use of a classroom response system to enhance classroom interactivity in a systems analysis and design course. The success of the project was assessed using both quantitative and qualitative data. A pretest/posttest design was used to examine the effects of a classroom response system on interactivity. The results show that a classroom response system can significantly improve classroom interactivity. With the appropriate framework to shape financial knowledge, the management accounting function should become an organization's principal decision-support platform. The framework consists of six levels of financial knowledge, and the word "financial" is most operative here. The Level 1 knowledge base connects a business to the outside world. When you have output volume and variable cost per output unit, you have the basis for Level 2 vocabulary. When a business transitions to Level 3, it has learned that return on assets must be employed as the enterprise's guiding profitability gauge. The value of master's level business education has been previously studied primarily through cost/benefit analysis, generally confirming that MBAs make more money. This study addresses the large question of the value of business master's education by carving out a small area of interest. It looks at the relationship of individual differences to perceptions of organizational mobility, which is a precursor to voluntary turnover. Three research questions are investigated. The first question is the relationship of cognitive ability to perceived organizational mobility. Because of their large size, defined benefit pension plans are an important component of U.S. corporate finances and capital markets. The value of pension plans comprises a sizable portion of the sponsoring firm's assets and impacts the sponsoring firm's profitability and risk. Plan funding status has a direct impact on firm earnings. Corporate sponsors of overfunded plans may reduce or eliminate cash contributions to the plan, improving earnings. In contrast, underfunded plans require large expedited contributions that lower earnings. This thesis uses content analysis, specifically thematic analysis, to investigate the message boards on Major League Baseball (MLB) teams' Web sites in order to 1) recognize in what ways sports teams' Internet message boards meet the unique gratifications of sports fans; and, 2) identify ways that sports PR practitioners can use Internet message boards for better (more gratifying) communication with sports fans. The concept of customer co-production has been mentioned in the marketing literature on several occasions. The lack of a clear definition and the poor operationalization in previous literature stimulated the interest to investigate it as a growing marketing concept. This dissertation investigated the perceived value of co-production in developing new products and found that it has an influence on customers' symbolic and functional reasons for purchase. In addition, the moderating effects of business communications and customers being classified classification as early adopters of innovation were found to be significant.

Estimating Willingness To Pay Using A Polychotomous Choice Function: An Application To Pork Products With Environmental Attributes, Sean P. Hurley, Douglas J. Miller, James B. Kliebenstein

Bid data from a Vickrey auction for pork chops with embedded environmental attributes were analyzed. It was found that approximately 62% of the participants had a positive WTP for the most "environmentally friendly" package of pork. Thirty percent of the participants had no WTP, and 8% had a negative WTP. A polychotomous choice model was used to accommodate data having an anchoring point within the distribution of the data. Standard variables found in the WTP literature coupled with this model were used to predict participants who were premium payers and non-premium payers using an estimated ordered probit equation.

Using a sample of 9,820 firm-year observations over the 2000-2003 period, this paper examines whether, and how, audit quality proxied by unsigned discretionary accruals is associated with abnormal audit fees, i.e., actual audit fees in excess of expected, normal audit fees. The results of various regressions reveal that the association between the two is insignificant for the full sample, significantly positive for the subsample of clients with positive abnormal fees, and insignificantly negative for the subsample of clients with negative abnormal fees. Corporate Financial Policy And The Value Of Cash, Michael Faulkender, Rong Wang

We examine the cross-sectional variation in the marginal value of corporate cash holdings that arises from differences in corporate financial policy. We begin by providing semi-quantitative predictions for the value of an extra dollar of cash depending upon the likely use of that dollar, and derive a set of intuitive hypotheses to test empirically. By examining the variation in excess stock returns over the fiscal year, we find that the marginal value of cash declines with larger cash holdings, higher leverage, better access to capital markets, and as firms choose greater cash distribution via dividends rather than repurchases.

According to the California Agricultural Statistical Service (CASS), California had almost 1.7 million dairy cows in 2003. These cows generated approximately four billion dollars in revenue, making the California Dairy industry the largest agricultural commodity in the state. These California dairies are estimated to have produced roughly thirty million metric tons of manure in 2003. According to the 2002 USDA census, eighty-seven percent of the dairy cows in California are located on farms of five hundred or more cows. Furthermore, the dairy industry is heavily concentrated in eight counties of California. This high concentration of dairies in the state implies …
