Marketing Strategies For Career Services, Jessie Heideman
Marketing Strategies For Career Services, Jessie Heideman
Graduate Research Papers
There are many marketing strategies career centers can use. Faculty, staff, alumni, and parents are extremely important targets to which services can be marketed. If career centers gain their support, they can promote the career center to students as well. Creating a marketing plan and a brand identity is another part of the process to market students to the career center. Once the career center achieves this step, the next step is looking at certain marketing ideas that may fit their specific college goals. The use of technology is another crucial strategy that can help attract students to career centers. …

Encouraging Technology-Based Ventures: Entrepreneurship Education And Engineering Graduates, Teresa Menzies, Joseph C. Paradi
New England Journal of Entrepreneurship
This article examines entrepreneurship courses offered by engineering faculties in Canada. The venturing rate of engineering students, whether the venturing rate increases if students have taken a course in entrepreneurship, and the type of ventures created are also explored. A recent census and an empirical study of two groups of engineering graduates from a Canadian university were utilized. Findings have implications for educators and administrators and for policy-makers interested in encouraging economic growth.
Using Social Cognitive Career Theory To Predict Self-Employment Goals, Gerald Segal, Dan Borgia, Jerry Schoenfeld
Using Social Cognitive Career Theory To Predict Self-Employment Goals, Gerald Segal, Dan Borgia, Jerry Schoenfeld
New England Journal of Entrepreneurship
Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT; Lent, Brown, and Hackett 1994, 1996) proposes that career interests, goals, and choices are related to self-efficacy beliefs and outcome expectations. It suggests that people’s self-efficacy beliefs and outcome expectations with regard to self-employment would predict their goals to become self-employed. This study explores the ability of SCCT to predict goals for self-employment in a sample of 115 undergraduate business students. Results indicated that students with higher entrepreneurial self-efficacy and higher self-employment outcome expectations had higher intentions to become self-employed. These findings imply that educators and policy-makers may boost student entrepreneurial intentions by (1) enhancing …

What Parents And Teachers Want To Know About Schools And How Schools Can Advertise This Information Using Technology, Denise H. Krefting
What Parents And Teachers Want To Know About Schools And How Schools Can Advertise This Information Using Technology, Denise H. Krefting
Graduate Research Papers
Finding good teachers is becoming very competitive in our nation as a large number of teachers will be retiring and fewer people are entering the profession. Parents are now shopping for the school that they want their children to attend and then finding the home in that district. The possibility of school vouchers is encouraging this. Schools need to be able to advertise information to potential employees and parents of their school district.
The Waukee School district in Waukee, Iowa works to create an informational CD made available to parents and employees is used as an example of what information …

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Theodore Hesburgh's Fund-Raising Speeches For The University Of Notre Dame, Peggie Mathaba Ncube
A Rhetorical Analysis Of Theodore Hesburgh's Fund-Raising Speeches For The University Of Notre Dame, Peggie Mathaba Ncube
Dissertations
Problem Statement. Literature reveals that college or university presidents play a key role in raising funds for their institutions. These roles are well documented, and yet many presidents face challenges in raising adequate funds for their institutions. Success stories of some university presidents are recorded, but no research has studied their rhetoric in raising funds in an attempt to uncover their formula for success. One such president is Theodore Hesburgh of the University of Notre Dame.
Methodology. This study assumes a rhetorical design, specifically the Burkean dramatistic approach to analyze Theodore Hesburgh's fund-raising speeches to the alumni of the …

I was approached by a motorcross club and asked to build a Website to represent their club. The purpose of the website is to promote the club to attract new members, announce up-coming events, show a member list with contact numbers, and provide a page to place pictures of past events. The club has limited funds, therefore they intend to maintain their site themselves and asked if I would show a selected few members the process. I had to find a way to educate club members on how to maintain their web page after I created and published the original …

Scholar Or Baller In American Higher Education? A Visual Elicitation And Qualitative Assessment Of The Studentathlete's Mindset, Keith Harrison
Scholar Or Baller In American Higher Education? A Visual Elicitation And Qualitative Assessment Of The Studentathlete's Mindset, Keith Harrison
Dr. C. Keith Harrison
Eminent scholar Harry Edwards (2000) has articulated three major realities of African American males in sports: a) The presumption of innate, race-linked black athletic superiority and intellectual deficiency; b) media propaganda portraying sports as a broadly accessible route to African American social and economic mobility; and c) a lack of comparably visible, high-prestige African American role models beyond the sports arena. Driven by labeling theory (Becker, 1963; Goffman, 1959), eight African American male student athletes were surveyed and interviewed. The last two points of Edwards' scholarship were investigated. "We have pretty good historical data and quantitative data about African American …

African American Racial Identity And Sport, Keith Harrison
Dr. C. Keith Harrison
The purpose of this paper is to attempt to synthesize and apply African American racial identity theory and related research to the development of sport and physical activity patterns and preferences in African American youth. Historically the African American over-representation in particular sports phenomena has been examined genetically, anthropocentrically, physiologically, sociologically, and psychologically. The profusion of explanations is a testimony to the complexity of this phenomena. This manuscript provides yet another compelling perspective. Cross [(1995) The psychology of Nigrescence: revising the Cross Model, in: J.G. PONTEROTTO et al. (Eds) Handbook of Multicultural Counseling (Thousand Oaks, CA, Sage)] outlines the metamorphic …
