Truckload Transportation Requirements: In Anticipation Of Y2k With Epilogue, John L. Kent, R Stephen Parker, Charles E. Pettijohn

This article investigates the impact of the much-hyped Y2K phenomenon on truckload transportation requirements in the United States, as a result of year-end inventory build-ups. The article reports the results of a Y2K Truckload Transportation Survey of truckload shippers conducted in August of 1999. Additionally, the article takes a post-hoc look at what actually occurred in an effort to completely document the impact of the Y2K phenomenon in the dry van, temperature controlled, and flatbed segments of the truckload transportation industry.

The paradigm shift from an inward production-led philosophy to the outward customer-oriented approach has given an impetus to the concept of total quality management in Indian organisations. To provide an insight into the practices of TOM in India, Vijay Vancheswar and Purnima Mathur studied six large manufacturing organisations, two each from the multinational, private and public sectors. Curriculum and course review is a common activity in accounting departments. The study of issues faced and emerging in the accounting profession is given minimal attention. The Virtual University: Lessons From A Virtual Cross-Cultural Learning Situation In International Management, Mikael Søndergaard, Jeanette Lemmergaard, Paul Donnelly, Marta B. Cálas

This paper addresses some issues regarding virtual learning and the future of traditional universities. Specifically, it considers these issues by reflecting on the following: First, it focuses on the repercussions of information technologies for teaching and learning in "cross-cultural" courses. It critically assesses, via three recent examples, how these approaches influence teaching and learning in the context of international management courses. Second, drawing from the above examples, the paper reflects more broadly on the implications of these technologies: (1) for new forms of knowing and knowledge production; and (2) for the future of institutional conditions of universities.

This article examines the work-family conflicts faced by women entrepreneurs in South India. The results indicate that female entrepreneurs in India may not be encountering the same levels of work-family conflict as their Western counterparts.
