The dynamics of the airport industry have induced a number of countries to undertake airport privatization as a way to provide higher quality airport services and achieve better financial result for both government and the privatized airports. The Airports Authority of Thailand (AAT), facing the increased pressure on airport infrastructure that can accommodate increased air traffic volume, is considering a privatization program to achieve its goals and objectives of enhancing revenues and efficiency. The article discusses financial reporting issues raised by the U. S. corporations in the increasing use of the Internet. The Internet is affecting traditional statements and audits as companies explore online options. Financial information is now easily available online, creating a new readership. CPAs must consider how to help make this information useful to the expanded public. Companies need to identify who will use their sites and provide appropriate features. Search engines help users connect information from all over a given Web site. Analysts may want to download financials into spreadsheets.

There are many obstacles for human service organizations in evaluating programs. Some of these barriers are the difficulty in defining human behavior and the change that needs to be evaluated, human service programs that take a long time to show results, agency capacity to do evaluation, and cost (Young, Hollister, Hodgkinson, & Associates, 1993). Another subtle yet powerful influence on the practice of evaluation in nonprofit organizations may be organizational culture (Schein, 1990). A Note On Going-Concern Modified Audit Reports And Subsequent Bankruptcies Before And After Sas No. 59, Marshall A. Geiger, Kannan Raghunandan, Dasaratha V. Rama

Several papers have examined the proportion of bankrupt companies which did not have a prior going-concern modified report (a type II reporting error) before and after Statement on Auditing Standards No. 59 became effective. This paper contributes to the debate by examining the subsequent viability status for companies that received a first-time going-concern modified audit report (type I reporting errors) before and after SAS No. 59. The results indicate that 13.6 (10.1) percent and 24.3 (20.2) percent of companies receiving a first-time going concern modified audit report in the post-SAS No. 59 (pre-SAS No. 59) period entered bankruptcy within one …

This paper improves the precision of the useful new procedure of Inclán and Tiao (1994) that estimates variance shift points in a time series. It accomplishes this by incorporating the evidence of Bos and Fetherston (1992) that the linear Brown, Durbin, and Evans (Brown et al., 1975) critical CUSUM of squares boundaries [used by Inclán and Tiao] produce an understatement of instability at the data end points. This is solved by Tanizaki (1995) which, like Bos and Fetherston (1992) and Bos and Fetherston (1995), uses the fact that the CUSUM of squares statistic follows a beta distribution. Do big dollar expenditures on information systems pay off? Friction-free: is that what we really want markets to be? Is it time for consumers to say goodbye to fixed pricing? The Internet creates an environment in which the cost of buyer-seller interactions is cheaper than ever, and consumers can participate in the price-setting process—revealing their willingness to pay—making it the most efficient one-on-one selling environment anywhere, approaching the efficiency of the financial markets. Most venture capitalists provide services to their portfolio companies beyond capital investment. Although these services form an important part of the bargain between the venture capitalists and the entrepreneur, they are rarely specified or even capable of specification in venture capital contracts. This article examines the moral hazard and adverse selection problems facing entrepreneurs who hire venture capitalists to provide value-added services and describes the role of the market for venture capitalist reputation in addressing those problems.
