A Queuing Theory Approach To Short-Haul Movements Under Constraints Of Time, Volume, And Unknown Behavioral Considerations., James Gerard Morris

Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations

The problem of parking in general and student parking in particular has become a matter of considerable interest on the University of New Mexico campus. Open parking space within a five-minute walking distance to central classroom buildings has become virtually non-existent during the peak hours of classroom activity. Evidence of student discontent over this problem is readily apparent in their letters to the student newspaper. Unbeknownst to most students, the situation is due to worsen. The University of New Mexico architect and Chief Planner, Robert Riley, has stated that within three years, no central campus parking will be available to …

Electronic Data Processing Feasibility Study Machinery For Commercial Banking Firms, David W. Howell Aug 1967

Electronic Data Processing Feasibility Study Machinery For Commercial Banking Firms, David W. Howell

Theses and Dissertations

Electronic Data Pro9essing is one of the most significant developments in recorded history. Many commercial banks have computers installed on their premises or lease computer time from a service company. A significant proportion of the installed systems are underutilized both in the number of applications programmed and total computer run times. This is a result of bank management's ignorance of electronic data processing characteristics and the subsequent poor and incomplete planning.

A commercial banking firm should establish electronic data processing feasibility study machinery on a. permanent basis. The creation of a permanent staff of junior bank executives should ensure intelligent …

The Everett Massacre: A Study Of The Industrial Workers Of The World, Arthur H. Belch Jul 1967

The Everett Massacre: A Study Of The Industrial Workers Of The World, Arthur H. Belch

Graduate Student Research Papers

The Everett Massacre serves not only as an example of harassment of organized labor but also as an example of the violence which typified the I. W.W. movement in its attempt to win concessions from an unwilling industry. In order to understand the historical significance of this event and to place it in perspective, it is necessary to understand the growth of the I. W.W. philosophy beginning with the Western Federation of Miners and the creation of the I. W.W. In addition, two incidents serve to illustrate the mental atmosphere in which the I. W.W. operated and public reaction to …

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility of private aircraft transportation for the University of North Dakota and analyze the costs involved.

Safety of private aircraft transportation is discussed with emphasis on the added safety of flying in North Dakota. This additional safety factor is attributed to the low terrain, numerous airports and suitable flying weather in North Dakota.

Economic justification is determined by comparing total operating costs, which include aircraft operating costs, depreciation and "value per man hour", to transportation costs incurred while traveling by commercial airlines or by University Motor Pool automobile. Value per man …

An Investigation Of The Kolmogorov-Smirnov Method Of Data Validation To Reduce Buyer Inspection Costs., John R. Costello

Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations

One of the major functions of any inspection, quality control or quality assurance organization is to provide assurance to management that their products are of adequate quality. Furthermore, management desires this function to be performed at the minimum cost commensurate with its objectives. It has been reported that inspection organizations used sampling inspection prior to 1920 to achieve their objectives but the sampling plans used were arbitrary with little scientific basis. During the 1920's the Western Electric Company made a major breakthrough with the development of the Shewhart control chart and the Dodge-Romig sampling tables. However, it was not until …

This conclusion is supported by the responses of school directors throughout the country, school district superintendents in Utah, and the school board members and parents in …

The quality of the decisions made is of vital importance to the progress of the particular economic system.

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The first and most serious concern for the college supervisor is the lack of a definite description of his job. Perhaps the cause of this dilemma is the divergent practices of the different teacher education programs offered by teacher training institutions.

Student teaching is considered to be the pinnacle of the education spiral for student teachers who are training to become professional teachers. The college supervisor of student teachers is one of the most influential individuals in guiding the student through the teacher training program. An efficient college supervisor is one who is aware of his responsibilities and who practices …

Undoubtedly business failures in Utah are also caused by the lack …

Data on any economic variable which might show a leading relationship to housing starts was gathered and synthesized to ascertain any predicting tendencies.

Several of the variables researched, particularly contracts awarded to Thiokol and Thiokol employment, showed a high positive correlation to housing starts; however, none showed any consistent leading pattern.

An accelerator relationship was found to exist between the average rate of change in Thiokol employment and housing starts. This finding, though not …

The Susceptibility Of Price Declines Among High Quality Common Industrial Stocks And Other Listed Common Industrial Stocks During Significant Market Declines, Walter D. Sanborn, Iii Apr 1967

The Susceptibility Of Price Declines Among High Quality Common Industrial Stocks And Other Listed Common Industrial Stocks During Significant Market Declines, Walter D. Sanborn, Iii

Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations

All common stock investments are subject to market declines regardless of favorable prospects for growth of earnings, dividends, or other factors contributing to market performance. In times of significant market declines, even the highest quality stock with excellent appreciation potential may decline. A qualified security analyst may find that stock "XXX' is a high quality stock and recommend its purchase, but if the stock market falls, the competent investor will lose wealth, at least temporarily, in spite of his careful job of security analysis. If investors had an analytical tool to help predict these declines, they would be able to …

Price-Determining Factors In The Processed Fruit And Vegetable Industry, Charles H. Hatfield Jr. Apr 1967

Price-Determining Factors In The Processed Fruit And Vegetable Industry, Charles H. Hatfield Jr.

Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations

The lack of any firm basis for pricing decisions in the processed fruit and vegetables industry was first brought to my attention by contact with some executives of the California Packing Corporation where I was employed for two years. Their consensus was that available supply was the most important factor in such determination, even though its relationship to price was only realized in a vague, ever-shifting manner. It is hypothesized both that a substantial basis on which to place pricing decisions could be determined and further that a demand function, based on utility analysis, would provide such a description of …
