Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Imbalances where job demands exceed available resources have been determined to cause employee burnout in the workplace. The relationship between job demands and available resources on burnout among human resource (HR) professionals has not been fully researched. Further, the impact of increasing available resources to meet job demands on fostering work engagement and supporting employee resilience to reduce burnout has not been fully explored. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine if job demands and available resources predict burnout among HR professionals. The framework was based on job demands-resources theory and conservation resources theory. The Job Demands-Resources Scale, …

Locus Of Control And Mindfulness As Moderators Of The Job Demand-Control Model: Effects On Burnout, Basia Andrejko-Gworek
Locus Of Control And Mindfulness As Moderators Of The Job Demand-Control Model: Effects On Burnout, Basia Andrejko-Gworek
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractBurnout is considered a health hazard of contemporary workplaces and additional research is needed to identify protective factors against this phenomenon. The job demand-control model specifies job control as the key buffer against strains, but empirical support for its buffer hypothesis is limited. The present study accounted for both structural and person factors and tested a revised hindrance job demand-control model in prediction of burnout. By incorporating the challenge-hindrance stress framework with tenets of the transactional stress framework and the differential reactivity of personality theory, it was proposed that inclusion of hindrance stressors (i.e., interpersonal conflict, role conflict and organizational …
Physician Assistant Burnout And Fulfillment Related To Career Development And Physician Relationship, Kari Sue Bernard
Physician Assistant Burnout And Fulfillment Related To Career Development And Physician Relationship, Kari Sue Bernard
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Physician workforce shortages are driving increased clinical and administrative use of non-physician healthcare providers. As a result, physician assistants (PAs) may experience role expansion in a positive or negative manner. The purpose of this study was to determine if aspects of PA career development related to role expansion interacted with the quality of the collaborative physician (CP) relationship to predict PA well-being. The job demands-resources (JD-R) model was used as the theoretical foundation and the National Academy of Medicine’s conceptual model of clinician well-being was used as the conceptual framework. Research questions addressed whether PA experience level predicted well-being, and …

Stress And Burnout: Empathy, Engagement, And Retention In Healthcare Support Staff, Burnette Vidal
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Research on stress and burnout and their influence on empathy, engagement, and retention, in healthcare support staff is scarce in the literature. The theoretical framework for this study was the conservation of resources (COR) theory which claims that when people are stressed, emotionally exhausted, and experiencing burnout, they protect and preserve their physical and mental resources from becoming depleted by reducing their effort and withdrawing from work. The key research question was: Does burnout mediate the relationship between stress and empathy, engagement, and turnover intentions in healthcare support staff working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)? This quantitative, non-experimental, …

Unmanaged stress in teachers often triggers burnout, which leads to a rise in healthcare costs and absenteeism. Therefore, teachers' resiliency needs improvement to lower the risk of burnout. The purpose of this cross-sectional design study was to examine the relationship between mindfulness techniques and resilience in high school teachers. An additional purpose of this study was to examine if the personality trait, conscientiousness, moderates the relationship between mindfulness techniques and resilience. The frameworks for this study were based on the self-awareness, -regulation, and -transcendence (S-ART) framework, theory of planned behavior, and the concepts of resilience and job burnout. Four surveys …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
After 30 plus years of research, clergy burnout is an ongoing concern; as such, it is important to identify the causes of this phenomenon. Researchers have already demonstrated that internal factors such as personality types, personal mastery, or conflict management and external factors such as role conflict, excessive activities, or unrealistic expectations, can lead to burnout. The problem that led to this study was that more exploration is needed about clergy's perceptions on leadership and burnout within the church. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore clergy within the Wesleyan Church in the Midwest to discover their …

not clear what causes employee burnout in working environments. The purpose of this
correlation study was to examine the relationships between project cost, project team member
role, project schedule, and project team member burnout. This study was grounded in the job
