Carter of East Tennessee State University was recently selected to serve a three-year term on the Tennessee Historical Society (THS) board of directors.
Founded in 1849, the THS is the oldest continually operating historical organization in Tennessee. JOHNSON CITY (April 6, 2021) – Laura Martin, a junior in East Tennessee State University’s Dental Hygiene Program, was selected as the 2021 American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) District VI Delegate.
As the delegate, she will represent dental hygiene students from Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi at the ADHA’s National Conference, which will be held in person and virtually this year.

JOHNSON CITY (April 5, 2021) – As part of its continued emphasis on campus safety, East Tennessee State University will test its emergency mass notification systems on Tuesday, April 6, at 9 a.m.
ETSU’s mass notification systems were installed in 2008, and include an outdoor warning siren system with five large speakers strategically placed on the main campus and on the VA campus, emergency text and email messaging, desktop messaging for computers connected to the ETSU system, an alert message on the ETSU homepage, and a public address system in select university buildings.

JOHNSON CITY – The East Tennessee State University Department of Art and Design and the Reece Museum present the “Spring 2021 BFA Senior Exhibition” now through April 30 featuring nine Bachelor of Fine Arts students.
The ETSU Department of Art and Design offers both Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in studio art and graphic design. Studio arts seniors are William Arrowood, Camila Edye, Loki Gardner, Lindsey Goddard, and Jess Uhl. Seniors in graphic design are Hank Collie, Haley McBrayer, Laura Rogers, and Emilee Storie. JOHNSON CITY – The George L. Carter Railroad Museum, located in the Campus Center Building of East Tennessee State University, will recall the era of diesel-powered railroading this Saturday, April 24.
With COVID-19 safety protocols in place, visitors will be welcomed to “Diesel Daze,” a day of internal-combustion trains dating from 1935 through 1970. Steam trains will be in operation on exhibits devoted to older reference points, but “usurpers to the throne” of horsepower will be on the HO and N scale displays.

JOHNSON CITY – Intelligent.com recently ranked East Tennessee State University’s Online Archival Studies Program, part of the university’s Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree, 15th in the nation’s “Top 43 Master’s in Liberal Arts Degree Programs” for “Best Archival Studies Focus.”
The ETSU Division of Cross-Disciplinary Studies offers two graduate options for students seeking to pursue archival education: a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) degree with an archival studies concentration, and a standalone graduate certificate in archival studies. JOHNSON CITY (March 30, 2021) – Dr. Michael Kruppa, an East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine faculty member, has received a grant to study a global emerging fungal infection, Candida auris.
The National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, awarded a R21 grant to Kruppa for his study “Genetic Characterization of phosphomannan biosynthesis in C. auris.” The two-year, $407,000 award is the first grant awarded to a researcher at ETSU to study Candida auris.
