The Performance Persistence Of Closed-End Funds, Martina K. Schmidt

The purpose of this study is to extend the research on mutual fund performance persistence to closed-end funds. Because closed-end funds trade at market prices different from net asset value (NA V) they are used to test both the performance persistence of their NAV and market price returns. While research has assessed the performance persistence of open-end funds, it has not assessed the performance persistence of closed-end funds. Yet, the unique characteristics of closed-end funds allow stronger arguments for their persistence than the arguments previously submitted for open-end funds. The Effects Of Source And Product Characteristics On Persuasion., Karin Braunsberger

The purpose of this research was to test the "product and endorser feature congruence hypothesis." Thus, it was tested whether matching source expertise with credence attribute claims and source experience with experience attributes claims has a positive effect on consumers' cognitive responses as well as their attitudes toward the endorser and the ad. These effects were investigated for the following reasons: First, source expertise appears to have a significant impact on persuasion (McGuire 1969) and is distinguishable from source experience (Jacoby, Troutman, Kuss and Mazursky 1986). This book explores the building of expert systems using logic for knowledge representation and meta-level inference for control. It presents research done by members of the expert systems group of the Department of Artificial Intelligence in Edinburgh, often in collaboration with others, based on two hypotheses: that logic is a suitable knowledge representation language, and that an explicit representation of the control regime of the theorem prover has many advantages. The editors introduce these hypotheses and present the arguments in their favor They then describe Socrates' a tool for the construction of expert systems that is based on these assumptions. …
