Accounting Problems Analysis In The Real World, Price A. Turner

This thesis explores how real-world challenges intersect with the field of accounting through the analysis of six diverse case studies: The China Hustle, the Military-Industrial Complex, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns, the economic philosophies of Dr. Thomas Sowell and Dr. Ben Carson, and an economic development proposal for Oxford, Mississippi. These cases were analyzed using financial models, evaluations, and qualitative research conducted under the guidance of Dr. Victoria Dickinson in the Honors Accountancy 420 course at the Patterson School of Accountancy, in partnership with the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College.

Applied Accounting Concepts: A Case-Based Approach, Thomas David Graham

This thesis, developed over two semesters of Accountancy 420, presents a series of case studies exploring diverse aspects of financial reporting and economic development. The fall segment examines key financial and regulatory issues, beginning with the mechanisms behind Chinese companies gaining U.S. stock exchange listings through shell companies (“The China Hustle”). It continues with an analysis of presidential authority in discretionary military spending, focusing on U.S. aid to Ukraine, and concludes with an investigation into the growing relevance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) disclosures in corporate reporting.

The NIL Ripple Effect: How Name, Image, and Likeness Reshapes Student-Athletes, Mental Health, and Fan Perception examines the shifting dynamics of college athletics and how these changes affect student-athletes, fans, and institutions. The study explores the consequences of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals and its effects on student-athletes' mental health and fans’ perception. Through interviews with athletes and analysis of current policies, this research highlights the mental, financial, and competitive pressures that NIL places on student-athletes. This thesis consists of a series of case studies performed throughout the duration of the accountancy 420 class. Each case was connected to a key area of financial reporting, where we learned about a topic and then reflected individually and within groups. As we explored the intricate relationships between finance, economics, policies, and ethics, we were exposed to unsettling insights that led to eye-opening revelations. This thesis is comprised of five case studies that were completed under the guidance of Dr. Victoria Dickinson during the course ACCY 420 – Independent Study, following the requirements of the Patterson School of Accountancy and the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. This research paper analyzes the causes of the gender employment gap, or the underrepresentation of women, within professional sports team front offices. The research question, What are the effects on female employees working in the sports industry with the prevalent difference in the number of women employed, analyzes the female experience in the industry.
