Cryptocurrency: The Argument For Its Allocation Within The Traditional Investor's Portfolio, Nicholas Costanza May 2018

Cryptocurrency: The Argument For Its Allocation Within The Traditional Investor's Portfolio, Nicholas Costanza

Finance Undergraduate Honors Theses

This research explores the significance of cryptocurrencies upon the “traditional” investor’s portfolio, particularly elaborating on the potential returns and advocating for its allocation within any balanced (or diversified) portfolio. Cryptocurrencies are a relatively new asset and are still considered to be extremely risky. They are characterized by ever-fluctuating prices, ongoing government regulation, and overall market skepticism. However, the potential of major cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ripple, Ethereum, and Litecoin) to produce major returns cannot be easily ignored. This paper builds upon the research of those in academia, as well as highly respected investors. The hope is to outline both the pros and …

A Comparative Analysis Of Personal Financial Literacy, Connor Davey

Finance Undergraduate Honors Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to provide a comparative analysis of the financial state of modern American college graduates to similar groups of graduates. From this comparative analysis, we can see which aspects of Personal Financial Literacy need to be emphasized to achieve success as a new college graduate. First, a comparison was made between modern American graduates and American graduates from Generation X. It was found that modern graduates have just slightly more student loan debt than Gen X graduates, despite having significantly higher tuition rates. This debt amount, over time, would not be a huge concern for …

Cost-Benefit Analysis Of Retirement Plans, Hunter Rhea May 2018

Cost-Benefit Analysis Of Retirement Plans, Hunter Rhea

Finance Undergraduate Honors Theses

In my research, I’ve compared the cost and benefits of defined benefit and defined contribution plans consisting of 401(k)s, IRAs, 403(b)s, and S&P 500 ETFs. A model was used to forecast future value of plans at retirement based on years till maturity, contribution amounts, and plan type. Based on the results, it’s beneficial for an individual to invest in a diversified mix of retirement plans to reduce the risk associated with one plan. The future value of each plan witnessed a direct increase in value for an increase in contribution amount and years till plan maturity.

Buy-And-Hold Versus Momentum Investment Strategies During Financial Crises, Howard Ly May 2018

Buy-And-Hold Versus Momentum Investment Strategies During Financial Crises, Howard Ly

Finance Undergraduate Honors Theses

In his article, “Where the Black Swans Hide & The 10 Best Days Myth,” Mebane Faber found that most of the best and worst trading days occur when the market is already declining. This phenomenon is due to increased volatility during bear markets, a result of investors’ emotions. Emotions, particularly fear and greed, lead to irrational trading behavior, resulting in rampant speculation or panic selling. Ideally, an investor would be in the market for the above-mentioned best days and be out of the market during the worst days. However, the difficulty in predicting these important dates have led some investors …

Self-Perception Of Ncaa Division I Student-Athletes, Sean Strehlow May 2018

Self-Perception Of Ncaa Division I Student-Athletes, Sean Strehlow

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Self-perception is the level of competency at which individuals evaluate themselves in certain areas or domains (Marsh & Shavelson, 1985). An individual’s self-perceptions contribute to their global self-worth, and even predict performance (Cuellar, 2014; Harter & Neemann, 2012). Self-perception is an increasingly popular area of study, and there is a gap in the research as it pertains to college student-athletes (Harter & Neemann, 2012). This study measures self- perception scores, as well as experiences with racial discrimination, of 306 NCAA Division I student-athletes using the Self-Perception Profile for College Students (Harter & Neemann, 2012). Scores are compared across race/ethnicity and …

Campus Recreation and its programs can be used as a way to combat the national trends of decreasing enrollment and retention (Weaver, Forte, & McFadden, 2017; Kampf & Teske, 2013). In fact, 62% of students indicate that Campus Recreation programs are a factor when choosing an institution and 67% indicate that recreation programs were a factor when deciding to stay at a particular institution (Forrester, 2014). As a program within Campus Recreation, Club Sports specifically is perceived to have the greatest health and wellbeing benefits out of all Campus Recreation programming (Lower, Turner, & Petersen, 2013). Disordered Eating Risk And Body Image Dissatisfaction Of Division I Male And Female Cheerleaders, Christopher Blaszka

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The sport of cheerleading is growing both in the high school and college setting, however there is little research on cheerleaders specifically, both sideline and competitive. It is clear that while this sport does not benefit from being affiliated with the NCAA, the athletes are still at large risk for disordered eating and eating disorders, and are in need of more accurate screening and prevention methods. With the lack of cheerleading studies in general, there is an even larger scarcity of studies that focus on males in cheerleading. The current study aims to fill the gap in the research regarding …

The Retailing Study Project Report: A Series Of Research Studies From The Walton College Of Business, Dinesh K. Gauri

Marketing Faculty Publications and Presentations

The respondents to questions about consumer behavior towards general merchandise and grocery retailers revealed distinct divisions among the three large retailers.

This study is in response to the dynamic and chaotic nature of today's retailing. U.S. retail accounts for 16 percent of U.S. GDP with just a few key retailers contributing most heavily.

Mergers and acquisition continue to change the retail landscape, and with Amazon growth and ecommerce on the rise, it was time to check shopper perceptions toward the three major retailers: Walmart, Amazon and Target,

Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences

A portfolio is “a digital container capable of storing visual and auditory content including text, images, video and sound” (Abrami and Barrett, 2005, p. 2). Portfolios are becoming a priority for graduates entering creative career fields. Electronic portfolios or e-portfolios are on the rise due to advancements in technology. These e-portfolios give students and graduates the ability to showcase everything they have done inside and outside the classroom in one place. E-portfolios give employers the opportunity to view a potential employment candidate’s skills, experience, and creativity in one place. Portfolios and e-portfolios can also be used inside of the classroom …
