Compiled for the Searcy Chamber of Commerce, the 1964 edition of this book contains information and statistics about Searcy, Arkansas from the Arkansas Department of Labor, Arkansas Economic Council, and various commissions throughout Arkansas and Searcy. This project was a relevant, practical and interesting experience for the Belden Center staff and, at the same time, it helped Searcy by providing a current and complete course of city information.

I would like, first, to give you some background information about St. Hubert's Giralda and hope that what I have to say will contribute something to people confronted with the problems of shelter management and animal control programs.

Preface

This bulletin presents a detailed statistical analysis of work stoppages in 1959, continuing an annual feature of the Bureau of Labor Statistics' program in the field of industrial relations. Preliminary monthly estimates of the level of strike (or lockout) activity for the United States as a whole are issued about 30 days after the end of the month of reference and are available upon request. Preliminary estimates for the entire year are available at the year's end; selected final tabulations are issued in April of the following year.

The purpose or this paper. is to show that the decline in the Volume of tonnage handled by the Port of San Francisco from 1931 to 1952 is chiefly attributable to the tremendous economic growth of California since 1940. Other economic, as well as non-economic causes of this decline which are in the investigator's opinion, significant enough to warrant consideration, will be analyzed.

This study presents a somewhat connected narrative of the attitudes and contributions of organized labor to education prior to 1860. It has a twofold purpose: first, it is concerned with a consideration of the psychological, economic, social and political background which provided and shaped the determining factors of organized labor's earlier educational attitudes and contributions; and second, with an investigation for evidences as to the nature, extent and significance of these attitudes and contributions in evaluating labor's part in establishing our system of free public school education.
