The Politics Of Aging And Rural Social Services: An Exploratory Analysis, Roger A. Lohmann

The advent of federal funding for rural social services during the late 1960s and 1970s brought about changes in the political organization of rural America. A host of new organizational actors, like Area Agencies on Aging and various local aging agencies were created in rural communities across the country, in the wake of Baker v. Carr with its “one man/one vote” principle and funding through programs like the Economic Opportunity Act and the Older Americans Act. This article details a leadership succession model suggesting that local leadership of aging interests went through at least four distinct phases during this time: …

Daniel Saye Hollis (1885-1981) was a politician and community leader from Rock Hill, SC. The Daniel Saye Hollis Papers consist of correspondence, speeches, legislative bills, reports, newspaper clippings and other material relating to Hollis’ career, term of office as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, York County politics, and the South Carolina Democratic Party. Of particular interest is a memoir entitled, “I Remember," which focuses on his early life, rural attitudes, and growing up in a southern rural community in the early 1900s. Why Blacks In The New Orleans Area Are Not Buying The Amc Pacer, Marketing Research Class Of 1977

This report, prepared by the Marketing Research Class of Xavier University of Louisiana under the instruction of Louis C. Mancuso, Ph.D., in Spring 1977, investigates why Black consumers in the New Orleans metropolitan area were not purchasing the American Motors Corporation (AMC) Pacer. Commissioned by Stephens AMC Jeep, Inc., the study was undertaken after a local dealership reported low sales volume of the Pacer among Black buyers, prompting an examination of consumer attitudes toward the vehicle's styling, price, and other features.

Employment Qualifications For Community Service Agencies And Organizations In Midland And Odessa, Susan Garfield Edwards

The terms "social work," "casework," and "counseling" signify similar but separate professions, occupations, and techniques. Their places within the spectrum of community or helping services are clarified by a discussion of relevant literature. Based on these perspectives, a survey of 104 local helping service agencies and organizations was under taken to establish employment qualifications (educational, experiential, professional) for the helping professions. Follow-up was done in 10 situations where Master's Degrees in Social Work, Counseling, and Psychology were required for employment—to determine the particular value of the degree for the specific position. This study is a follow-up to an earlier (1971) proposal for the application of Input-output analysis to social planning in human services (Repository item #753), and predates current models of human services as part of the nonprofit, or third sector. The manuscript details a study of financial inputs and service outputs in human services in the United Way system of Knoxville TN, noting a variety of quantitative ratios and measures of the human services delivery system, and assessing some of the strengths and weaknesses of the matrix approach.
