How To Put The Collapsed Lebanese Banking Sector On The Right Track?, Danielle Khalife, Jad Yammine, Tatiana El Bazi
Arab Economic and Business Journal
The revival of Lebanon involves regaining trust in its banking system. Starting by highlighting the main banking sector’s inefficiencies in Lebanon, as well as the bad investment practices that have led to the current financial crisis, a full business model that could restore confidence in the Lebanese banking sector, and increase its profitability in the foreseeable future is proposed. This new business structure tackles three main areas including, cost reduction, liabilities management, and income generation, is suggested with evidence on how this model could play a major role in the upcoming recovery period and lead to positive financial results.
Fast Moving Consumer Goods Sector In India – Tending Towards Oligopoly?, S. Anupama, Dhanisha Dharmajan, Rajiv Nair
Fast Moving Consumer Goods Sector In India – Tending Towards Oligopoly?, S. Anupama, Dhanisha Dharmajan, Rajiv Nair
Arab Economic and Business Journal
We study the performance of the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, in India. It is the fourth largest sector in India. Macroeconomic factors, modern production techniques, robust logistics facilities, efficient distribution networks and superior marketing capabilities have given the sector an edge over the other sectors. Firm performance is determined by considering liquidity, solvency and profitability ratios and also by employing common size statements, and comparative statements. We find that the sector appears to be overly dependent on the performance of a few firms. We further find that firm performance is not related to non-commercial factors such as CSR.

Future Proofing Entrepreneurship In The Arab World, Haya Al-Dajani
Arab Economic and Business Journal
This conceptual article proposes a cooperative entrepreneurship framework with a producer cooperative enterprise start-up model to contribute to addressing the complex consequences of the social, political and economic challenges affecting the Arab world. The article argues that the adoption of a producer cooperative enterprise start-up model will contribute to future proofing entrepreneurship in the Arab world, and avoid a return to a preference for public sector employment that will stifle the sustainable social and economic development of the region. As such, the article contributes to bridging the gap in the literature on entrepreneurship start up support initiatives and models in …

Examining Factors Related To Employees' Perceived Value Congruence In A Newcomer Training Program, William Joseph Mattera Jr
Examining Factors Related To Employees' Perceived Value Congruence In A Newcomer Training Program, William Joseph Mattera Jr
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The first 90 days of employment have received more and more attention concerning how an individual employee (“individual”) can succeed within the work environment. Watkins (2013) centers the responsibility on the individual to engage in understanding, embracing, and shifting toward buying into an organizational culture. However, what role does an organization play in successfully transitioning an individual into their culture? The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of a new employee training program on perceptions of role clarity, organizational culture, organizational goals and values, and perceived value congruence.
A quantitative approach was utilized to analyze responses …

Critical Thinking In The Age Of Misinformation: Information Literacy For Citizenship, Tamra Ortgies-Young, Jennfer Lobo Meeks, Barbara Robertson
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
As recent political events across the globe have shed a light on the fragility of democratic values, the role of the University in creating a framework for civic education becomes more urgent. Informed, caring and engaged citizenry must be a goal of higher education. Students currently face the emergence of faulty types of information - such as misinformation and disinformation, which undermines the notion of collective or public inquiry, not only within universities, but also within society as a whole. This challenge must be acknowledged and addressed by academic institutions.
Session presenters will provide an overview of their work, “Critical …

This study is evaluating how much a Major League Baseball player should earn in salary based on their WAR (Wins Above Replacement) metric while controlling for a player’s veteran status and their current team’s market size. All data analyzed in this study was collected from the 2021 baseball season. The population of this study consisted of 213 MLB players that played in at least eighty games throughout the 2021 season. We hypothesized that if a player has veteran status, their team has a large market size, and they produce a high WAR metric that it will result in the player …

Navigating The Public Funding Landscape: Lessons From One Small, Isolated, Rural, Arts Organization, Elise L. Kieffer
Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
This study follows the experience of one arts organization in an isolated, rural, Appalachian community of Kentucky, to explore the relationship between the NEA and the state arts agencies with which they partner. Using the case study of Burkesville Academy of Fine Arts as an inspiration, this question is explored: If BAFA had received necessary technical support from the KAC, is it likely that it might have been awarded funding by the NEA? The study compares BAFA to organizations in comparable communities who received NEA funding. Following findings, suggestions for policy and practice are provided.

A pressure ulcer is an injury that affects the underlying tissue and skin and is primarily caused by prolonged pressure on the skin. During a clinical rotation at a small rural teaching hospital, pressure ulcers were prevalent in an estimated 80% of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) during a three-week period. Approximately $26.8 billion are spent every year in the United States treating pressure ulcers. The purpose of this quality improvement project is to provide staff education to ICU nurses in order to reduce and prevent the prevalence of pressure ulcers in patients. A thorough literature review was …

The Melanocortin-1 Receptor gene (MC1R) encodes a protein that is associated with pigmentation in vertebrate animals. An extraordinary number of variations in this gene have arisen over time due to the importance of pigmentation in camouflage, photosensitivity, vitamin D production, and other evolutionary factors. Variations in the MC1R gene sequence became important to survival as humans migrated out of Africa and into cooler climates with less sun exposure, where lighter skin pigmentation (and therefore more vitamin D production) was key to survival. These genetic variations (alleles) continue to exist in modern humans. Recent research into the MC1R gene variations shows …

Research, Testing, And Validation Of Small Satellite Designs: Cubesats, Cansats, Pocketqubes, And Femtosatellites, Jason A. Combs, Jose L. Garcia
2022 Celebration of Student Scholarship - Poster Presentations
The focus of this project, through research and testing, was to prepare various elements of small satellite experiential education curriculum. Rather than be constrained to the expensive and long-term timelines of a larger satellites, students can assemble, test, and operate various classes of small satellites in a valuable learning experience that will prepare them to work on larger projects. The true benefit of a PocketQube, CanSat, or femtosatellite is that they can be built with less money, less experience, and less long-term commitment while providing a scaled version of the real-life satellite development process that will engage and inspire students. …

Yeast are eukaryotic organisms that contain liner chromosomes. At the ends of these chromosomes, there are special regions known as telomeres. Telomeres are composed of non-coding nucleotides that serve to protect the vital coding DNA found throughout the rest of the chromosome. During the process of DNA replication, however, telomeres become progressively shorter which can lead to cellular senescence. To solve this issue, yeast express the enzyme telomerase. Telomerase is composed of a telomerase reverse transcriptase protein (TERT) and telomerase RNA (TLC1) in yeast. When telomeres become too short, telomerase extends telomeres by adding to the 3’ overhang. Telomeres shorten …

Technology In Workplace Communication By Generation, Hannah Meadows, Christy Trent
2022 Celebration of Student Scholarship - Poster Presentations
The purpose of this research study was to determine the generational differences in the use of communication technology in the workplace. Most employees feel a deeper sense of connection to those in their own generational group. This survey looks at ideologies across four generations, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z, to help give employers some insight into why employees feel this way and encourage better communication in the workforce.
