From Authoritarian To Participative Management & Back Again: A Field Study Of The Effects Of Employee Participation In A Manufacturing Setting, William Pierce May 1992

From Authoritarian To Participative Management & Back Again: A Field Study Of The Effects Of Employee Participation In A Manufacturing Setting, William Pierce

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This study consists of two surveys administered sixteen months apart in a large (1000 employee) Fortune 100 organization which was sold to a Japanese company during the period under study and underwent several other chaotic changes. The purpose of the study was to assess the perceived differences brought about by training and participation. Six factors that were assessed for differences were: productivity, communication, employee participation, work teams, management leadership, and mergers/acquisitions.

Results were compared from the two time periods across all six factors. Productivity and communication proved statistically significant at p(.05, while employee participation and work teams prove statistically significant …

Generic Strategies, Leader Attributes, Environmental Uncertainty, And Organizational Performance: An Empirical Investigation Of Contingencies And Configurational Outcomes, Tope Adeyemi-Bello May 1992

Generic Strategies, Leader Attributes, Environmental Uncertainty, And Organizational Performance: An Empirical Investigation Of Contingencies And Configurational Outcomes, Tope Adeyemi-Bello

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The implications of strategy, environmental uncertainty, and leader attributes to the performance of organizations have been the subject of many research studies. The traditional interaction-based contingency approach that has typically been used in the management literature for examining the interrelationships between these variables, may very often be inadequate to capture the overall pattern of fit among them. A contemporary approach that allows researchers to examine sophisticated relationships between variables is configuration or systems theory— which suggests that inevitable relationships exist between strategic, environmental, contextual, and organizational variables and performance. This study used both the interaction and configuration-based approaches to determine …

Isaac Murphy: A 19th Century African-American Jockey, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

The name Isaac Murphy is not exactly a household word in American Sport, and I suspect even among those who follow horse racing the name is not likely to evoke recognition. But on this day before the Kentucky Derby it might be worth recalling the career of Isaac Murphy.

The Babe: Flim Review, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

If you like scatological humor, overdone caricature, stupidity masking as innocence, then you might well enjoy The Babe, the over hyped, over promoted new film from Universal Pictures starring John Goodman as the Bambino. If you go to this film in search of the definitive life of George Herman Ruth, as is promised by Director Arthur Hiller and writer-producer John Fusco, you will be greatly disappointed.

Hockey Strike Ends - Arthur Ashe Hiv - Magic Ticket Price Increase, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

The last words of last week's commentary were, "This could be a long a one." It wasn't. The Hockey Strike is over, and it was a short one, ten days. Did the Sure-Footed Northern Rink Rat succumb to the call of the Stanley Cup? Or did the owners cave in under the economic pressures of the moment? Who blinked first, the players or the owners?

Comments On "Regional Integration In Sub-Saharan Africa: Past Experience And Future Prospects" By Faezah Foroutan, Ishrat Husain Dr.

Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse

I agree with Ms Forouton that the import substitution policies and the unequal distribution of costs and benefits of integration are the principal reason for the lack of success in regional integration in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). I also agree that factor mobility in the presence of restricted goods movement is not necessarily and automatically welfare improving or desirable. Both of these conclusions follow logically from the comparative static framework she uses for her analysis. I would leave the speculative question as to what will happen if we use a dynamic process but I would show that, even under the present …

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

How closely do science and art approach truth, or approach each other? More nearly than one might think concludes WALTER CUMMINS. Professor of English at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Cummins has published many short stories and articles dealing with writing and communication.

SONIA KOVITZ looks into the ordeal of Simone Weil to find value in herself, a struggle in which she would never admit success, in order to consider the meaning of this universal passion. The Final Four: History And Pressure, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Are you feeling like you have been run over by a truck on the road to the Final Four? Does the road to the Final Four go through your living room? Are you beginning to think that Billy Packer is robosportscaster? Do you have any idea why Curry Kirkpatrick is on the sidelines, or Mike Francesa is in the studio? Do you care? Well, as Dick Vitale says, "It's time to take a T.O. baby."
