An Analysis Of Attitudes In Jefferson Township, Christine Ann Serrino

Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)

In August and September of 1992, citizens of Jefferson Township and Wright State University's Center for Urban and Public Affairs surveyed Township businesses. They questioned businesses about factors that might impact their establishments and plans to retain or expand their operations in the Township.

The main objective of the Jefferson Township R & E Survey was to characterize business conditions and change in the Township. Survey objectives include identifying strengths, weaknesses and needs of businesses in the community. Equally important, the survey attempts to measure what impact future changes may have on business conditions. The information gathered from the survey …

Gas Peak Design Day Analysis, Kerry Elaine Broehl Jan 1994

Gas Peak Design Day Analysis, Kerry Elaine Broehl

Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)

The changing natural gas industry has increased the importance for utility companies to develop an accurate peak day forecast. The model developed for this midwest utility estimates a firm natural gas sendout econometrically, using the Ordinary Least Squares regression analysis. The peak is primarily weather driven, thus the model made use of wind-chill variables from the current day, the previous day, and the current day squared. Also included is a disposable income variable to reflect the level of economic activity.

The peak day forecast depends on using extreme weather conditions for the design day parameters. The parameters used represented the …

Other resources

Bartenders Association of Ireland – A History book captured the many social and professional practice events, awards, new drinks and hotels services launched, significant bar and cocktail industry people and their contributions plus the many community activities which the bartenders and members of the Bartenders Association of Ireland (BAI) have successfully completed from the 1940s up to the late 1990s. The successful completion of these activities would not be been possible without the active and on-going support of the many Irish and international drinks and hospitality establishments (association supporters) and the association’s membership and active support of initially the UKBG …

A Quarterly General Fund Revenue Forecasting Model For Clark County, George A. Sodders Jan 1994

A Quarterly General Fund Revenue Forecasting Model For Clark County, George A. Sodders

Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)

The Clark County econometric general fund revenue forecasting model developed establishes a connection between conditions in the local and national economy. The model was designed to hold economic rationale and econometric modeling procedure. In the model, variation in the predictor variables account for 70% of the variation in the general fund revenue collection.

Econometric models reflect the conditions present in the local, regional, and national economy at the time of development. Since conditions in the economy are subject to change, the relationship of the predictor variable to general fund revenue collections may change in the future.

The Political Economy Of External Debt: A Case Study Of Latin America, Elisabeth Ann Johnson Jan 1994

The Political Economy Of External Debt: A Case Study Of Latin America, Elisabeth Ann Johnson

Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)

I believe that high external debt service requirements act as a restraint on economic growth and aggravate macroeconomic and microeconomic imbalances within an economy. Large future repayments act as a tax on investment, both foreign and domestic, encourage capital flight, and decrease savings. Inflation increases due to currency devaluations that result from the promotion of export goods and services in international markets to repay the debt and uncertainty in the domestic financial markets. Austerity measures, designed to correct fiscal problems, decrease public expenditures and private consumption. The final result is a lack of economic growth and a decline in the …

The Effect Of Working On Campus On First Year Retention Rates And First Year Grade Point Averages Of Fall 1992 Direct From High School Freshmen At Wright State University, Lee Mortimer

Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)

The nation's colleges and universities are aware of the growing dropout problem. Research to date has focused on the importance of social integration of students as well as the type of students who initially enroll as two major components of student success.

This study attempted to analyze models that combined both academic preparation and social integration (in this case student employment on campus), to study Fall Quarter 1992 direct from high school full time degree freshmen.

The results were very consistent with the relevant literature in that first year retention as well as first year grade point averages were linked …

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

Taking seriously C.P. Snow's mid-century caution that scientists and writers had increasingly little understanding of the other, KELLY CHERRY explains how she and other poets have reflected the scientific world. Author of ten books, including God's Loud Hand, a volume of poems to be published this year by Louisiana State University Press, Cherry is Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

After Kurt Gödel's proof that no theory can completely explain a system, particularly one involving arithmetic, ADAM DROZDEK suggests, only the intellectually arrogant scientist can presume to understand the nature of humans. Yet many have tried in …

Benefits Of Formal Mentoring, Kimberly Hein Hutzell Jan 1994

Benefits Of Formal Mentoring, Kimberly Hein Hutzell

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The development of capable and result-oriented employees is of critical necessity in the business world. During a period of cutbacks and mergers, as well as demanding work schedules and skill qualifications, corporations must identify methods of support and training which not only maintain, but increase and maximize production levels of employees. One method to address these conditions is formal mentoring. Formal mentoring is a deliberate job training partnership which seeks to increase employee performance as well as improve an organization's competitiveness. While this form of experiential learning has a history in the education sector, it has been introduced and implemented …

Clearing The Air, Mike Carroll Jan 1994

Clearing The Air, Mike Carroll

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

This edition of the Western Australian Journal of Agriculture contains an exchange of letters between 20 farmers and myself, prompted by the article by Ross Kingwell in the last issue of the Journal (Volume 34, No. 4, 1993).

The article was entitled 'Agriculture's Economic Performance', and dealt with some of the economic forces in agriculture, including the terms of trade, productivity growth and the growth of exports. However, it is evident from the following letter and from other comments that the worthwhile content of the article was negated by some unfortunate phrasing, and a too compressed treatment of a complex …

An Eclectic Approach To Turning Points In Migration, Eng Fong Pang Jan 1994

An Eclectic Approach To Turning Points In Migration, Eng Fong Pang

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

The eclectic approach to migration transition presented in this article emphasizes that a country's net migration position evolves as it develops, but in ways that reflect its initial economic and sociocultural conditions and subsequent policies and economic progress. Not one but several turning points exist, influenced by economic factors such as level of development, wage differentials, and trade and investment ties, as well as social and institutional factors such as a nation's homogeneity and its migration policies. To exemplify, the migration experiences of various Asia-Pacific countries are compared.

The Vehicle Quota System In Singapore: An Assessment, Winston T. H. Koh, David K. C. Lee Jan 1994

The Vehicle Quota System In Singapore: An Assessment, Winston T. H. Koh, David K. C. Lee

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

This paper reviews the developments since the vehicle quota system was introduced in Singapore in May 1990. We discuss the bidding strategies for the certificates of entitlement (COE) under both the transferable and nontransferable auctions, as well as the equity of the present system and the desirability of transferable COEs. We argue that the COE auction should be made discriminatory and propose an alternative system of COE auction that we feel is both equitable and at the same time politically acceptable. We also survey developments in market competition in the car industry.

Bowl Mania And Naming Rights, Richard C. Crepeau Dec 1993

Bowl Mania And Naming Rights, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Amidst the incessant whining and babbling about who is number one, comes the endless parade of bowl games, in which millions of dollars are spent on advertising, game production, and team payouts. This is matched in the realm of conspicuous waste by the binge of spending indulged in by participating institutions of higher learning to entertain boosters, legislators, and assorted hangers-on who haunt the halls of athletic departments. FSU dropped three-quarters of a million dollars on one recent trip.

More Sports Books For Christmas, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

As I mentioned last week, sports books are often considered to be the perfect last minute Christmas gift, and as promised, today I will offer several suggestions of sports books as gifts to add to last week's baseball book list. For those hearing the evening broadcast these are literally last second suggestions.

Sports Books For Christmas, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Every Christmas the sports book becomes one of those items that people resort to as a last minute gift. But the sports book can be a thoughtful and excellent gift for sports fans and for those who simply like good books and good writing. This week I am recommending nine books which come from a list of nominees for an award as baseball book of the year. Next week I'll recommend several non-baseball books.
