How Long Does The Pilgrimage Tourism Experience To Santiago De Compostela Last?, Lucrezia Lopez
How Long Does The Pilgrimage Tourism Experience To Santiago De Compostela Last?, Lucrezia Lopez
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
Tourism and pilgrimage are different social phenomena (Cohen, 1992; Collins-Kreiner, 2010a); tourism is more secular than pilgrimage, which is mainly a sacred journey (Barber, 2001). In spite of this, both indicate a ‘movement’; so that tourists and pilgrims are ‘foreigners, travellers and strangers’ (Smith, 1992) who look for authentic experiences (Collins-Kreiner, 2010a). The question: ‘What kind of Experience Pilgrimage is?’ has many answers. From a social point of view, pilgrims are free from social obligations; they share the same destination and the same social status. Because of this, the anthropologists Turner and Turner (1978) defined pilgrimage as an anti-structural experience …
Daniel As An Example Of Exceptional Cross Cultural Leadership, Debby Thomas
Daniel As An Example Of Exceptional Cross Cultural Leadership, Debby Thomas
Faculty Publications - College of Business
This paper presents Daniel as a prototypical model of an excellent cross-cultural Christian leader. The GLOBE project research on cross-cultural leaders is consulted and five cross cultural leadership qualities are identified based on their acceptance in all cultures studied: integrity, performance oriented, visionary, inspirational, and team builder as found in Dorfman’s research originating from the GLOBE project.1 God’s intervention in Daniel’s leadership is also considered as a significant factor in Daniel’s cross-cultural success as a leader. Exegetical analysis of Daniel 1 and 2 verifies that Daniel meets the criteria of an excellent cross-cultural leader as proposed by Dorfman. Daniel presents …
Response: Spreading The “Tone At The Top” Throughout The Organization, Jennifer Dose
Response: Spreading The “Tone At The Top” Throughout The Organization, Jennifer Dose
Business Educator Scholarship
Many thanks to Dov Fischer and Hershey Friedman, the authors of “Psalms: Lessons for a ‘Tone at the Top’ Based on Trust and Justice,” for a very interesting and timely article. I am pleased that my own article, “Proverbs: Ancient Wisdom for Contemporary Organizations” (Dose, 2012), published in the JBIB, sparked the ideas presented in “Tone at the Top.” My goal in the Proverbs paper was to conduct an inductive study of Proverbs to find themes related to business. The assumption was that organizational members, particularly leaders, who follow the set of principles that Proverbs advocates, bring about beneficial organizational …
Women In Leadership: How A Woman’S Background Affects Her Leadership Style, Serena Bahe, Richard Ruiz, Armando Tejeda, Steven Sill
Women In Leadership: How A Woman’S Background Affects Her Leadership Style, Serena Bahe, Richard Ruiz, Armando Tejeda, Steven Sill
Verbum Incarnatum: An Academic Journal of Social Justice
Stereotypes and beliefs about women have often kept them from equality with men. What is more striking is that women perpetuate the stereotypes and beliefs as much as men and society as a whole. This literature review focuses on three areas in a woman’s background that influence her ability to lead: a) triggers that propel her into a leadership position, b) the “intersectionalities” or multiple identities and personalities a woman must have to be an effective leader, and c) how the context of where she leads affects her leadership behavior. It also addresses the need for more research to identify …

The Problem
Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) local conference treasurers, or Chief Financial Officers, are trusted by church members to manage the finances of the church and provide financial leadership, yet the denomination does not know how treasurers develop their values and leadership capacity as financial administrators. This study examined how treasurers compare with the leadership values of morality, integrity, and fairness prevalent today in positive forms of leadership theories. It explores SDA treasurer or financial officer self-assessment with the rating that their team members provide, allowing us to know the authenticity of their values as leaders.

The Impossible, Highly Desired Islamic Bank, Haider Ala Hamoudi
The Impossible, Highly Desired Islamic Bank, Haider Ala Hamoudi
Articles
The purpose of this Article is to explore, and explain the stubborn persistence of, a central paradox that is endemic to the retail Islamic bank as it operates in the United States. The paradox is that retail Islamic banking in the United States is impossible, and yet it remains highly desired. It is impossible because the principles that are supposed to underlie the practice of Islamic finance deal with the trading of assets and the equitable sharing of risks, profits and losses among bank, depositor and portfolio investment. It is true that much of this can be, and is, circumvented …
Major Gifts To The Seed Company : Who Gives Them And Why, Michael E. Toupin
Major Gifts To The Seed Company : Who Gives Them And Why, Michael E. Toupin
Dissertations
The Seed Company, a faith-based organization committed to Bible translation projects for hundreds of minority language communities, depends upon major donor support for its success and growth. There is a dearth of research available regarding philanthropic characteristics of major donors within The Seed Company resulting in a significant knowledge gap for healthy major donor programs based upon objective data. This study confirmed the value of several development approaches, particularly the importance of intentionally building a sense of community and relationship around the cause of the organization.
The study analyzed relationships between demographics, experiences related to the organization, and six independent …

Use Of Funds In A Nonprofit Organization As Predictor Of Organizational Effectiveness And Efficiency, Throstur B. Thordarson

Purpose. The purpose of this study is to explore predictive relationships between how funds are used in a religious not-for-profit organization (NPO) and member recruitment. Method. This study used a linear time-series analysis where relationships between variables and past values were explored over a 12-year period. Financial data were collected from year-end audited statements and financial activity statements. Published statistical records were used to collect data on membership and member donations.
Findings. This study concludes that Seventh-day Adventist …
