Electronic contract signing allows two potentially dis-trustful parties to digitally sign an electronic document “simultaneously” across a network. Existing solutions for electronic contract signing either require the involvement of a trusted third party (TTP), or are complex and expensive in communication and computation. On-line portfolio selection, a fundamental problem in computational finance, has attracted increasing interest from artificial intelligence and machine learning communities in recent years. Empirical evidence shows that stock's high and low prices are temporary and stock prices are likely to follow the mean reversion phenomenon. While existing mean reversion strategies are shown to achieve good empirical performance on many real datasets, they often make the single-period mean reversion assumption, which is not always satisfied, leading to poor performance in certain real datasets. Performance Study Of A Mems Low-Noise Sound Pressure Gradient Microphone Under An Ac Bias, Jonathan Michelson

An AC bias was introduced into microelectromechanical system (MEMS) low-noise sound pressure gradient microphone by Miles, Cui, Su and Hormentcovschi (2014), and its implications for the device's noise performance and directivity readings are discussed. The schematic involved demodulation of the microphone output with external circuitry, and subsequent computer software analysis of the microphone and circuitry outputs. Although insights into noise improvement were frustrated due to subpar noisy components used in the demodulation circuitry, the simultaneous measuring of the microphone's varying directivity patterns was shown to be achievable with this AC bias scheme.

Amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) is a transparent amorphous oxide semiconductor (TAOS) that has shown promise as transparent thin film transistors (TTFTs) in various display applications. Within a-IGZO films, states can form in the band gap that hinder TTFT performance. In order to elucidate the origin of these states, we examined the formation of the subgap states for a-IGZO thin films with various compositions. We observed a positive correlation between the subgap formation and the percentage of oxygen ruling out oxygen deficiencies as a factor in the formation of subgap states. The Chinese Communist party is the biggest political party in the world, and members are often motivated to join for economic reasons. The Perpetuation Of Graffiti Art Subculture, Camille Lannert

Graffiti art and the subculture that supports it is a form of graffiti that differs from gang graffiti, immediate graffiti, and street art. This research is a qualitative analysis using partial participant observation of a graffiti art subculture in a Midwestern city. Six themes which characterize this subculture were individual identity, communication, competition, criminality, aesthetic criteria, and changing forms of communication. The implications of the findings for labeling theory and differential association theories are discussed.

This dissertation consists of three essays. The first essay examines the impact of the 2012 drought and the biofuels mandate on the U.S. grain and livestock markets. A stochastic equilibrium displacement model is used to analyze the impact on eight commodity markets viz. beef, pork, poultry, corn, distillers’ grain (DG), soybean, soymeal, and ethanol. Among the eight markets, corn and beef are found to be the most vulnerable to drought. The use of Renewable Identification Number (RIN) credits as an instrument to mitigate the impact of drought has limited effectiveness. A mandate waiver of about 23% is required to fully …

We propose a new market-making model which incorporates a number of realistic features relevant for high-frequency trading. In particular, we model the dependency structure of prices and order arrivals with novel self- and cross-exciting point processes. Furthermore, instead of assuming the bid and ask prices can be adjusted continuously by the market maker, we formulate the market maker's decisions as an optimal switching problem. Inspired by clustering and energy harvesting techniques, we study multiple-cluster wireless sensor networks with energy harvesting (EH) sensors serving as relay for cluster heads. In this paper, we derive the model for realistic energy harvesting rate. Then we propose distributed matching algorithm for EHs to serve as relay for CHs. The proposed algorithm could find optimal/near-optimal CH-EH matching in short time and still achieve good performance. We evaluate the performance of our method through theoretical analysis as well as simulation.
