Comparing The Moderating Effects Of Military Rank On Absorptive Capacity, Allen Brannan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Many tactical-echelon military unit training programs do not reach their stated objectives for growth in organizational skills and increased mission capability due to a less than complete understanding of how the training audience transfers the training program's new knowledge into operational processes. The subsequent squandering of valuable resources, such as time, people, and materials, limits the unit's ability to accomplish its assigned tasks and overall mission. Cohen and Levinthal’s absorptive capacity theory describes how organizations transfer new knowledge. Their theory is applied here to better understand how soldiers in tactical-echelon military units perceive the transfer of knowledge from external sources. …

Fake It Till You Make It With Your Boss? Surface Acting In Interactions With Leaders, Xiaoxiao Hu, Yujie Zhan, William P. Jimenez, Rebecca Garden, Yi Li

Psychology Faculty Publications

Due to its influence on important workplace outcomes, surface acting has drawn increasing attention from researchers in recent years. Most of the research in this area has focused on employees’ interactions with individuals external to the organization, such as customers and clients (Bolton, 2005; Grandey et al., 2013). With the current study, we contribute to and extend the literature by focusing on employees’ leader-directed surface acting and examining how leader-directed surface acting (i.e., faking positive emotions and suppressing negative emotions in interactions with one’s leader) relates to leader ratings of employee task performance. Data collected from 414 employees and 103 …

I start by describing quality of care in nursing homes, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, …

We start by discussing the traditional simulation-based view on SJTs, including information on their development and research results. Next, we show how more recent versions have started to assess people’s knowledge of relevant behavior related to personality traits. Finally, we specify various strategies as to how SJTs might be …

Regression analysis indicated that an employee’s personal experience of factors associated with optimism at work influenced their perception of …

Experiencing Race In The Workplace: Understanding How African American Male Leaders Make Sense Of Their Race At Work, Stefanie L. Watson Jan 2021

Experiencing Race In The Workplace: Understanding How African American Male Leaders Make Sense Of Their Race At Work, Stefanie L. Watson

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

Weber (2001) defines race as “the grouping of people with certain ancestry and biological traits into categories for differential treatment” (p. 74). Yet, according to the American Anthropological Association (1998) and countless doctors, scientists, geneticists, and scholars, in theory, the term “race” does not scientifically correspond to biological and physiological distinctions and has no empirical basis. Despite the lack of biological basis, racial categories are powerful frameworks for defining self-concepts and structuring opportunities within American society. Within the framework of a racially stratified, White dominated society, individuals who self-identify as White (or are perceived by Whites to be White) receive …
