The African Journal of Information Systems

The aim of this paper is to report students’ perceptions on whether the use of accounting software enhances their understanding of the accounting cycle, and improves their information technology skills. Kolb’s experiential learning cycle is used to argue that offering a concrete learning experience increases effective learning. The study uses survey research to determine students’ perspectives of the usefulness of using accounting software in enhancing their understanding of the accounting cycle in a real business environment. The COVID 19 pandemic is responsible for instructional delivery changes in the higher education environment. The forced closing of many traditional classrooms, and teaching virtually, is taking the transfer of knowledge to students into a different realm. Adjustments must be made by students and professors alike to ensure that students continue to learn. The COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the world to its proverbial core with institutions for higher learning caught in the crosshairs. Consequently, every facet of higher education has been indelibly affected. Traditional classroom instruction immediately changed, and a nontraditional delivery method emerged inclusive of both hybrid and online instruction. Declining state budget for public schools means that tuition fees may have to be correspondingly increase. The state funding is down by around 40% compared to fiscal 1980. Journal of International Technology and Information Management

This paper provided the results of an investigation on the teaching of computer networks courses and web information retrieval courses in undergraduate Information Technology (IT) curriculum. The paper consists of two parts. First part of the paper surveys the undergraduate courses in two curriculum areas, computer networks and web information retrieval. The content of the survey includes the topics covered, the textbooks used, and major projects in these courses. The second part of the paper describes the authors’ experiences in teaching such courses to undergraduate students in various discipline areas including computer science majors, IT majors, and non-technical majors.
