Intellectual Property Issues For Startups Participating In Entrepreneurship Support Programs In Wisconsin, Nathaniel S. Hammons
Intellectual Property Issues For Startups Participating In Entrepreneurship Support Programs In Wisconsin, Nathaniel S. Hammons
Marquette Intellectual Property Law Review
Wisconsin is not known as a bastion of startup activity. Yet the startup scene has changed significantly since the turn of the century, and the pace of change has been accelerating. In 2001, only eight early-stage Wisconsin companies raised capital, totaling less than $53 million. In 2016, by way of comparison, 137 early-stage Wisconsin companies raised more than $276 million in investment capital. As someone familiar with the state might surmise, more than half of the deals closed in 2016 were in the Madison area, home to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and large employers in information technology, healthcare, and life …

Global Public Health
While every country around the world faces a form of public health issues, the issues that the country of Venezuela faces are different. The country of Venezuela now lacks the proper medical supplies needed to help cure diseases and normal vaccinations, and the only ones to blame is their government. Because their government has now refused to pay their debts to the surrounding countries they have now lost …

Information, like any other type of property, has value to the extent that it meets the standards of relevance to the recipient. Relevance may be based in part on exclusivity, but it is also based on the reliability, resilience, and security of the information. Particularly when the information is data rather than entertainment content, these features will determine the success or failure of the enterprise. Without all three …

The states with fair dealing regulations enforce state-based legal obligations on the franchisor that cannot be modified by the contractual terms. The intersection of federal law with the array of state regulations make the issuance of a franchise complex. A company should not …

As the WIPO primer on intellectual property for small business explains, “[t]he practice of extending loans …

God’S Grace And The Marketplace: Mainline Protestant Church, Faith And Business, Sarah Helene Duggin
Scholarly Articles
This paper explores the engagement of Mainline Churches with business ethics in the workplace and offers some ideas for how Mainline churches can participate more fully in the work that needs to be done. Part I suggests that, for many years, Mainline churches were less active than one might expect in supporting the development of robust faith perspectives on business ethics, and it identifies possible cultural, financial, and structural factors why this may be so. Many of these factors are common to other religious traditions, although some are particularly relevant to Mainline denominations. The discussion in Part II begins with …

The United States is not entirely alone in this effort, but other countries have been far less vigorous in investing resources in investigations and prosecuting cases. Because of the unilateral and extraterritorial nature of FCPA prosecutions, these cases are sometimes controversial as foreign governments resist American influence in their commercial relations.
In response to this international tension, as well as a …
Hyperfunding: Regulating Financial Innovations, Seth C. Oranburg
Hyperfunding: Regulating Financial Innovations, Seth C. Oranburg
University of Colorado Law Review
Innovations in corporate finance are driven by frustrations with present regulations and fueled by the internet and social media. Hyperfunding is one such example: Tesla paved the way for an electric vehicle revolution by preselling hundreds of thousands of its Model 3 EV direct to consumers. Unwary consumers may not have realized that they were underwriting Tesla's bold strategy to transform multiple product markets. Risks were not disclosed. Rewards proved illusory. Investors would have been entitled to disclosures and colorable claims of fraud when Tesla missed milestones and deadlines. But consumers can only get their $1000 deposit back, without interest, …
