The Effect Of Innovation Performance On The Pricing In Private Placement, Tong Liu Aug 2022

The Effect Of Innovation Performance On The Pricing In Private Placement, Tong Liu

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

We propose a research project examining the effect of firms’ innovation performance in the pricing of private equity placements, namely private investments in public equity (PIPEs). We investigate whether firms’ previous innovation outputs have been considered in the PIPE issuance. Innovative activities are important for firms to gain strategic advantage against their competitors. Firms with innovative opportunities frequently lack capital. However, financing innovation tends to be more difficult due to the uncertainty and information asymmetry (Acharya and Xu, 2017). Compared to public firms, private firms have the limitations to access the broader investor pool and higher cost of capital. Unlike …

The Cost Of Big Data: Evaluating The Effects Of The European Union’S General Data Protection Regulation, Kara Rebecca White Sep 2021

The Cost Of Big Data: Evaluating The Effects Of The European Union’S General Data Protection Regulation, Kara Rebecca White

EURēCA: Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement

In the 1990’s the World Wide Web was created, drastically changing the way we do business, communicate, and live our lives. Ten years later in the early 2000’s the dot com boom happened, and several years later, new technology giants emerged—like Amazon, Google, and Facebook. From this, we now face “big data” that promises to solve world problems, but has the potential to create turmoil and malfeasance. My research examines the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enacted in the EU in 2016 on firm value using Tobin’s Q and CARs. Using regression analyses, I observe that Tobin’s …

The Role Of Liquidity In Technology Sector M&As, Cameron Gaechter May 2019

The Role Of Liquidity In Technology Sector M&As, Cameron Gaechter

CURCE Annual Undergraduate Conference

The purpose of this study is to examine abnormal wealth effects observed by acquirer and target shareholders in technology-sector M&A deals, as well as the effect that liquidity positioning has on merger premiums or discounts. Abnormal wealth effects experienced by the acquirer and target both pre- and post-merger announcement were tested in a two-sided event study consisting of a large sample of companies representing the two sides of the transaction. The event study demonstrates that different characteristics of M&A deals, i.e. payment consideration and domesticity, have asymmetric effects on abnormal wealth effects for shareholders of both parties, with the most …

Poison Pills And Their Effect On Shareholder Return, Katherine G. Fowlkes Apr 2019

Poison Pills And Their Effect On Shareholder Return, Katherine G. Fowlkes

EURēCA: Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement

The purpose of this study is to determine whether more recent poison pill data supports the Shareholder Maximization Theory or the Management Entrenchment Theory. In sum, this is an event study in which I will explore whether the stock price for a company goes abnormally up or down immediately following a poison pill announcement. I examine the cumulative abnormal returns of 28 companies within the following event windows: the event itself and the following day (0;+1), periods of three (- 1; +1), five (-2; +2) and seven (-3; +3) days, and longer periods of pre-adoption (-15; -4) and post-adoption (+4; …

College of Business Administration

Most businesses in the United States have had the chance to become public through initial public offerings, or IPOs. IPOs allow for some of the stock of a private company to be sold to the public. These IPOs generally bring in more capital to a business so the question of whether there is a specific determinant in executive compensation between males and females during these IPOs and if this has an impact on firm performance arises. The purpose of this research is …

Financial Analysis Of Cdw Corporation, Sydney Harris, Nicholas Rumke, Jacob Flynn, Quinton Ranzau, Herbi Miller

Scholar Week 2016 - present

CDW Corporation, based in Lincolnshire, Illinois, has been in business for the past 30 years. Over the past five years, the company has gone public and acquired a United Kingdom-based company to expand its international commerce. As an IT re-seller and solution provider to small-, medium-, and large-sized businesses, CDW is able to create comparative advantages against its competition and increase market share. However, the increase in both scale and scope of its operations has come with a worrisome cost, added debt. As a result of our financial analysis for the suitability of an investment, our recommendation is to hold …

Perceived Risk Reduction In E-Commerce Environments, C. Michael Powell, Chris Conca

Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings

During the past three decades, the growth of e-commerce has presented marketers with many new arenas for research and application. Certainly e-commerce has become a significant portion of the world economy and in particular the consumer sector. As previous literature has consistently considered perceived risk as a major factor consumer purchase decisions, this research identifies several major components of consumer perceived risk (PR) and their normative implications in the e-commerce environment

National Culture Dimensions And Consumer Digital Piracy: A European Perspective, Irena Vida, Monika Kukar-Kinney, Mateja Kos Kokli, James Reardon Sep 2015

National Culture Dimensions And Consumer Digital Piracy: A European Perspective, Irena Vida, Monika Kukar-Kinney, Mateja Kos Kokli, James Reardon

Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings

Digital piracy as a ubiquitous phenomenon affects a number of stakeholders, such as consumers, enterprises, and governments. Considering its global nature, it has been of particular interest to consumer researchers. Hence, a large body of digital piracy literature sheds light on the demand side and illuminates various predictors of digital piracy behavior (Harris & Daunt, 2011). Despite these efforts, very little attention has been devoted to applying international perspective in investigating digital piracy across different countries (Ki, Chang, & Khang, 2006). This study aims to fill this void by examining the digital piracy behavior in three EU countries. In addition, …
