This South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Records (SCAFCS) is a valuable source on Family and Consumer Science history in South Carolina during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The organization was known as the South Carolina Home Economics Association (SCHEA) from 1914 to 1995. Sallie Alta Pearce Musser [1902-1974] was a home demonstration agent (1930-1957), and head of the South Carolina Home Demonstration Service (1957-1965). The Sallie Pearce Musser Papers consist of biographical data, correspondence, letters of appreciation upon her retirement, newspaper clippings, photographs, and term papers written by Mrs. Musser while she was working on her MA in 1950 at George Peabody College for Women.

Also included are family business papers from the time of Ida’s Irish immigrant great-great-grandfather, John Crawford (1750-1826) to the time of her father James Roy Crawford (1891-1980). The Marguerite Tolbert Papers consist of biographical data, newspaper and magazine articles, photographs, a copy of her thesis titled, A Survey of Negro Elementary Schools of Oconee County (1940), a scrapbook, and other papers, mainly relating to her career as an educator and to her student days at Winthrop (1911-1914).
