The man elected as president of the Swiss American Historical Society in the spring of 1940 was Emil J. Schaefer. Born in 18 92 in Zurich- Hongg, he came to the United States as a 19 year old youth who just had finished the Gymnasium n Winterthur. He attended several colleges in the Midwest and earned a master 's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
