Typescript of a diary kept by Joseph Rogers Underwood, 1834-1850, in which he records everyday occurrences at home in Bowling Green, Kentucky and in Washington, D.C., where he served in the U.S. House of Representatives,1835-1843, and the U.S. Senate, 1847-1853. Interspersed throughout are comments by his second wife, Elizabeth (Cox) Underwood. Also includes a document containing information about Thomas Rogers and an “Account of the Escape of Prisoners from Fort Warren, Boston Harbor” written by Douglas Gordon.
