Attendance

The Sixth Annual Meeting of the reactivated Swiss American Historical Society, to which the members had been invited by circular letters of October 25 and November 28, took place on December 27, 2969, in the Conference Hall of the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C. Time and place were chosen because of the coincidence with the Annual Meeting of the American Historical Association of December 28 - 30 in the same town. This facilitated the attendance of our professional historians, but was less practical for those among our members who had to use the holiday season for family …

Report Of The President Of The Swiss American Historical Society For 1969, Dr. Heinz K. Meier

The year of 1969 was an outwardly quiet one as far as SAHS matters were concerned. I knew when I was reelected to the presidency of the society at the last annual meeting in New York a year ago that its affairs had been well handled and that everything was in good order. This is all the more remarkable as our expenses are cca. $ 200.-- higher than last year and due to the general decline of the bond priced our tax-exempt New York State Power Authority Bond value in correlation with the general trend in the stock market, also declined somewhat. Nevertheless, due to the very thorough drive to collect the membership fees, we not only off-set these …

Address by Dr. Imhoof: We are concerned here with Prof. Heinz Meier's latest book, Friendship Under Stress, U.S.-Swiss Relations 1900-1950, published by Herbert Lang & Co. in Fern this winter. It has been very favorably reviewed, as many of you may know. Prof. Max Silberschmidt published a very positive appreciation in its thoroughness as well as in its perspective - a much-needed book, and my remarks are meant to recommend it very warmly to you.
