Coach Jeff Wren begins his ninth season as the coach of both the men’s and women’s swimming teams. The veteran coach is very optimistic about the quality and depth of this year’s team. The 1998-99 season will be highlighted in late February when UMaine once again hosts the AMERICA EAST Men’s & Women’s Championships.

With 11 players returning from last years’ team which finished third in the AMERICA EAST Tournament, the Black Bears will look to challenge for the conference title this season. Maine will not only benefit from the experience the returning players have gained, but their continued offensive power as well. Maine was second in the conference in batting average last season and five of its top six batters are back for another season.
