This book presents a rare "health-seekers" diary on the Santa Fe Trail in the 1850s. Larkin visited New Mexico at a time of intensive transition, and witnessed several significant events on the trail and in early Anglo-occupied New Mexico. Few such diaries exist, and Larkin's in one of the earliest and most robust health-seeker diaries known.
