The Rev. William Wyndham Malet visited South Carolina in the summer of 1862. He left his vicarage at Ardeley, Hertfordshire, England, to come to South Carolina to tell his sister, Mrs. Plowden C. J. Weston (formerly Emily Frances Esdaile), of a death in their family. While in South Carolina he spent the summer in Conwayboro (Conway) at Snow Hill, the war time refuge of Plowden C. J. Weston (Lt. Gov. of S.C. 1862-1864). Weston had evacuated his home, Hagley Plantation, on the lower Waccamaw River and moved his wife and approximately forty of his slaves upriver to Snow Hill in …

John Muir Hanna: A Biography Bill Hanna, Napa, California FAMILY John Muir Hanna was born on March 15, 1909 in Oakland to Wanda Muir and Thomas Rae Hanna. He was the second child of six. His older brother was Strent (Strentzel) who was born in 1907. His younger siblings were Richard, Robert, Jean, and Ross. His grandfather was the naturalist and preservationist John Muir and his grandmother was Louie Strentzel Muir whose parents had settled in Martinez in 1853. John's mother, Annie Wanda Muir, was the elder daughter of John Muir and Louie Strentzel. She and her sister, Helen, were …

It includes 20th century correspondence, manuals from the national office of PSK, copies of Oak Leaf, and Signet, and minutes and correspondence from various committees from the era of the group's transition from The Druids to Phi Sigma Kappa in the 1920s.

The Yarnell Collection consists of correspondence received by Orpha Yarnell during World War II from both of her sons, Clyde and Glenn. Clyde served with the 493rd Quartermaster Depot, and the letter from overseas, his training at Camp Harahan, and his stay in Camp Stoneman. Glenn served with the 186th Engineer Combat Battalion, originating from Fort Jackson, Camp Forrest, and New Guinea.
