Faroosh was a cameraman for a private television program in Afghanistan working on a documentary about the Taliban. When he and his crew were discovered, the Taliban attacked them and he and his wife fled to Turkey, walking 12 hours to get there. Upon arrival the police arrested and harassed them. Turkey was not a safe place. After several suicide bombings in the area, they decided to move on to Greece, where they are in a refugee camp without any progress in their situation. TSOS Interview Gallery
Fawad and his wife, Zakeela, have three children. Zakeela was a beautician, and Fawad was a singer in the Baghlan district in Afghanistan. The music he produced was not in accordance with the strict restrictions of the Taliban. They threatened his life and assaulted him many times, so he decided to leave with his family to Kabul. Fawad’s day job was as an FM radio producer; at night, he moonlighted as a singer and musician. He produced music for ceremonies and weddings, often performing for the women’s part, which the Taliban did not accept. Eventually, his life was again threatened, …
The Federal Charter Of 1291 And The Founding Of The Swiss State, Albert Winkler
The Federal Charter Of 1291 And The Founding Of The Swiss State, Albert Winkler
Faculty Publications
The traditional date for the founding of the Swiss state is 1291 with the signing of the Federal Charter or Bundesbrief. The document was elevated to national significance not by historians or by the opinion of the Swiss people but as an act of government. It was unknown among the early historians of the Swiss Confederation, and many modern historians are skeptical about its authenticity and significance. Internal evidence suggests that the document was composed at a later date, and that it may be a forgery.
J. Bracken Lee And Utah Public Education, Elwin Lee Reynolds
J. Bracken Lee And Utah Public Education, Elwin Lee Reynolds
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the two gubernatorial terms of J. Bracken Lee, Governor of Utah 1948-1956, and the effect he had on education during these years. Lee has been accused by his detractors of being opposed to education. He has been defended by his supporters as being a friend whose only desire was to have education operated on a sound fiscal basis. During his two terms as governor he was almost constantly involved in some dispute with the education people in the state and was frequently on the defensive against anti-education charges.

A Historical Study Of The Congressional Career, John T. Caine, Judith Ann Roderick

John T. Caine, an adept leader in the national and local political arena, was one of the best known and most highly respected men in Utah during the territorial era. Very early in his life he assumed an active role in politics and became one of the early leaders of the Democratic Party in Utah. From the time of his initial election in 1882 as the territorial delegate until his retirement in 1893, he labored in behalf of his constituents. No task proved to be too tiresome or laborious; industry, honesty, and sober self-reliance were personal characteristics of the man …
A Study Of The Forces Leading To The Adoption Of Prohibition In Utah In 1917, Bruce T. Dyer
A Study Of The Forces Leading To The Adoption Of Prohibition In Utah In 1917, Bruce T. Dyer
Theses and Dissertations
The forces in the campaign that was to bring prohibition to Utah in 1917 had become identified with the prohibition movement by the spring of 1908. On the side of the drys were the various temperance organizations, the churches of Utah and the major political parties. Allied agaist the prohibition group were the combined liquor interests. Uncommitted to either side were the authorities of the Mormon Church, although both groups could seemingly lay claim to the support of the Church authorities when conflicting statements and actions of that body were put before the public view.
