Launched in Fall 2018, the UMaine Medicine initiative was intended to support in a coordinated and synergistic manner the growth and development of research and scholarly activity in health and life sciences, and to better position the university with related community outreach and engagement efforts. Through the contribution of many faculty and other participants, and guided by a steering committee with broad faculty representation, significant progress has been made towards the realization of this goal.

Umaine Medicine Internal Grant Program: 2020 Update, University Of Maine: Office Of The Vice President For Research And Dean Of The Graduate School

Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School, Kody Varahramyan, launched the UMaine Medicine Initiative in November 2018. As part of the launch, internal funding programs were created and the inaugural round of the internal grant programs yielded 12 applications for funding. After a review panel process, a total of six awards were made, comprising: four seed grants, one infrastructure grant, and one NIH proposal development incentive award. Office of Research Development Director, Jason Charland, manages the UMaine Medicine grant program.
