The Identity Of Lucina, Wife Of John A. Tarrant (D. 1864) Of New York, New York, Charles H. Smith
The Identity Of Lucina, Wife Of John A. Tarrant (D. 1864) Of New York, New York, Charles H. Smith
Faculty/Staff Personal Papers
In compiling my "Charles H. Smith: A Direct-Line Ancestry, Since Colonial Times" (published online in 2020), I was initially foiled in my attempts to identify the parents of my great-great grandfather John A. Tarrant (d. 1864), onetime owner of a highly successful wholesale drugs firm in New York City, or those of his wife Lucina (d. 1857). Some basic detective work I've carried out since that time has produced progress on the matter, as I now report.

This little book stems from extensive pre-1843 research that I have done of most of the early Davis families of Jackson County, Illinois. The families of Nathan and Clement Davis are outside my personal interests, but I have a strong feeling there is a good ikelihood that, farther back i n time, we may have roots i n the same Davis clan. This book has taken a small step toward determining whether that may be true. Hopefully others i n the future will be able to improve upon this effort.

The Lineage Of Abby Benson (1801/02 - 1866), Of Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut, Charles H. Smith
Faculty/Staff Personal Papers
Among the individuals I researched in compiling my “Charles H. Smith: A Direct- Line Ancestry, Since Colonial Times” (published online in 2020) was one Abby (aka Abi, Aby, Abbey, Abigail) Benson, of Sharon and Kent, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Abby, who married Chester Fowler (1800-1878) about 1823 (based on the date of birth of their first child William in 1824), is one of my third great-grandmothers. As of 2020 I was unable to identify Abby’s parents, though she has always been listed as a Benson. There were other Bensons in the immediate area, though historically the family had roots extending back …

This little booklet is an extension of the Martin portion of a book that I self-published in late 2014 entitled The Pioneer Williams Families of Smith Township, Posey County, Indiana and their Allen, Cater, Davis, Harmon, Johnson/Johnston, Journey, Lowe, Martin, Prewitt/Pruitt and Rook Connections.1 It contains by far the most detailed published account of Elder James Martin’s life and family. This new work has been created to document additional facts and sources related to the lives of Elder James Martin and his brother Simon.
Elder James Martin is very unique among people of his era, in that he left a …
