Minna F. Weinstein (1933-2008) was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Her parents were both deaf and met at a school for the deaf in Western Maryland. Her father was a major proponent of education, and both she and her brother became teachers. She went on to college and graduate school at the University of Maryland, where she earned her B.A. in History, 1955, an M.A. in History, 1957, and a Ph.D. in History in 1965.
