France's Financial Crisis: Analyzing The Role Of The Finance Minister, Jadon B. Smith
Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History
The downfall of France's Old Regime and the beginning of the French Revolution were largely caused by the financial crisis plaguing France. Since the Seven Year's War, France's finances had suffered and were spiraling out of control. The finances were kept largely by the country's appointed finance minister. France would go through a host of these finance ministers up to the Revolution. The most notable was Jacques Necker who receives more detailed analysis. Tracing the administrations of these finance ministers helps explain an important factor leading to the French Revolution.

Le 8 juin 1793 la ville de Caen se déclara en insurrection contre la Convention Nationale, protestant contre la proscription de vingt-neuf députés nationaux durant la révolution parisienne du 31 mai. Dans les semaines qui suivirent, Caen devint le centre principal de la révolte provinciale contre la Convention Montagnarde. La ville attira des élus de neuf autres départe ments bretons et normands, qui formèrent ensemble le Comité Central de Résistance à l'Oppression. La ville de Caen fournit plus de quatre cents volontaires à la force armée levée par ces départements pour marcher sur Paris et restaurer l'intégrité de la Convention. …

Making History: How Art Museums In The French Revolution Crafted A National Identity, 1789-1799, Anna E. Sido

This paper compares two art museums, both created during the French Revolution, that fostered national unity by promoting a cultural identity. By analyzing the use of preexisting architecture from the ancien régime, innovative displays of art and redefinitions of the museum visitor as an Enlightened citizen, this thesis explores the application of eighteenth-century philosophy to the formation of two museums. The first is the Musée Central des Arts in the Louvre and the second is the Musée des Monuments Français, both housed in buildings taken over by the Revolutionary government and present the seized property of the royal family and …
